As a seasoned soccer enthusiast and environmental activist, I am utterly captivated by the pioneering spirit of Forest Green Rovers Football Club. Their commitment to sustainability is not just a fleeting trend but a deeply ingrained ethos that resonates with my personal beliefs. From being the world’s only vegan football club to constructing an all-timber stadium, they are setting new standards in eco-friendly sports.
As a passionate gamer and ardent supporter of Forest Green Rovers, I’m proud to be part of the world’s greenest football club. We’re not just about soccer; we’re all about blending our love for the game with sustainability. From being the only vegan F.C. to planning the world’s first all-timber stadium, we’re setting new eco-friendly standards in the sport.
In collaboration with Umbro, the official kit partner, the club has introduced new kits made from bamboo fabric, which highlight data related to climate change. The team has also collaborated with the University of Reading’s Show Your Stripes campaign and the University of Derby professor Miles Richardson. Ed Hawkins, a climate scientist, contributed a graphic that illustrates the increase in average global temperatures from 1850 until now, while Richardson provided his biodiversity stripes graph, depicting the decline of UK wildlife since 1970. For away matches, a pink colorway is used, and green is utilized for training purposes.
Dale Vince, chairman of Forest Green Rovers, expressed that we’ve made significant advances in incorporating sustainability across all aspects of our club. He also emphasized our ongoing commitment to fostering understanding about the climate emergency, which is an integral part of who we are, as he spoke to Dezeen.
As a passionate gamer, I’d say: “With their fresh new kits, Forest Green is empowering players and spectators alike to become advocates for our planet. Each game becomes a platform to ignite action and emphasize the pressing need for global climate solutions. The beauty of football lies in its ability to bring people together, and now it can rally fans around the vital cause of combating climate change.”
