In the midst of thrilling announcements that Doctor Who will be back in April, featuring Alan Cumming for a fresh role, we have even more reasons to rejoice due to Billie Piper. Previously associated with The Doctor as a companion, she recently posted something on social media that has brought joy to many fans, and I find this development particularly intriguing given her impending comeback to the series.
While the actress has confirmed in past years she likely wouldn’t do a prolonged run on Doctor Who again, fans will soon get a chance to see her in an adventure that, sadly, is not coming for those with a Disney+ subscription. That said, I do wonder if a cameo in the series is on the horizon based on her recent Instagram post.
Billie Piper’s Recent Instagram Post Features A Nod To Doctor Who
It seems quite fitting, reminiscent of “Doctor Who,” when an actor mentions the show in a post unrelated to it. Recently, Billie Piper expressed her enthusiasm for the Six Nations Championship, and some fans speculated that she subtly referenced Rose Tyler on her phone.

It’s intriguing that this ex-“Doctor Who” actor hasn’t explicitly suggested a comeback to the series, but it’s fascinating that she continues to display the Bad Wolf logo, which has been a part of her phone for over a decade since her role in “The Day Of The Doctor,” a special episode marking the 50th anniversary of “Doctor Who.” This prolonged association with the logo may signify her enduring affection for her time on the show, or it could be a subtle hint at a future appearance, but let’s refrain from overindulging in speculation.
When Is Billie Piper Returning To Doctor Who?
Although it’s undecided if Billie Piper will feature on the upcoming season of Doctor Who, we can confirm that she’ll be teaming up once more with a fellow actor who has reprised his role within the series, Christopher Eccleston. The pair are set to collaborate again in a twelve-hour audio drama from Big Finish, titled Doctor Who – The Ninth Doctor Adventures, scheduled for release in August 2025.
The tale promises additional thrilling escapades featuring the Ninth Doctor alongside Rose, potentially reviving cherished moments from their most memorable dialogues during their brief tenure on Doctor Who. Although they were only a part of one season, they significantly contributed to some of the series’ finest episodes. I believe this audio drama could become another iconic adventure for the pair, if audiences choose to purchase it and explore it. As for any further appearances, we can only speculate whether she might appear in Season 2 or future episodes that may follow.
The second season of “Doctor Who” is set to debut on Disney+ this coming Saturday, April 12th. There’s a rumor that one of its main actors, Ncuti Gatwa, might be leaving the show soon. It will surely be intriguing to see how the narrative unfolds as the new season begins.
