Former ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Writer Elisabeth Finch Admits to Having “Lied About So Much”

As a long-time fan of Grey’s Anatomy and a follower of Hollywood drama, I must say that Elisabeth Finch‘s confession is both shocking and heartbreaking. Her captivating story, filled with hardships and triumphs, was not just a compelling narrative for the show but also seemed to be an integral part of her real life. However, it seems that like many Hollywood tales, this one may have been more fiction than fact.

Previously, scriptwriter and co-executive producer Elisabeth Finch of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, admits to having “deceived so much,” coincides with the release of a documentary series chronicling her journey in Hollywood and eventual downfall on Peacock.

Yesterday afternoon, I took to Instagram to express my deepest apologies for the untruths I’ve spread that have hurt those dear to me – friends, family, and colleagues. I acknowledge now that I’ve given no one a reason to trust my words, as I found myself ensnared in the web of lies I’d woven. ‘I’m sorry’ seems so insufficient in light of the pain I’ve caused, but it’s the most genuine sentiment I can muster. I’ve trapped myself in the destructive cycle of deceit, betraying and causing trauma to those closest to me.

The individual who initially claimed to be a bone cancer survivor, whose past sparked a plot line on the ABC medical series before facing scrutiny, stated, “I’m doing what I can to apologize sincerely whenever people are prepared.

On the very same day, the three-part series titled “Anatomy of Lies” by Peacock premieres, which delves into Finch’s claims and her career in the entertainment industry. This project, jointly directed by Evgenia Peretz and David Schisgall, scrutinizes the distressing medical tales Finch fabricated during her time in showbiz, such as her supposed diagnosis of chondrosarcoma, kidney loss, and abortion. (The writer had previously discussed some of these alleged hardships in publications like Elle, Shondaland, and The Hollywood Reporter.) However, in March 2022, eyebrows were raised when Disney put Finch on administrative leave as they initiated an investigation into her claims. By the end of that month, the writer stepped away from the show, and later in the year, Finch admitted to never having any form of cancer.

Jennifer Beyer, who was once married to Finch, joined forces with former writers Kiley Donovan and Andy Reaser from the show “Grey’s Anatomy”, along with Matt Graham, a fellow USC alumnus and writer. They all contributed to the Peacock docuseries that delves deeper into an investigation about Finch, which was initially published in two parts by Peretz in Vanity Fair.

In a recent Instagram post, Finch pledges to keep on mending any harm as much as possible and to strive to avoid repeating her past mistakes. Here’s the complete text:
