Former ‘Jeopardy!’ Exec Mike Richards to Join Ben Shapiro at The Daily Wire as President

Mike Richards, the long-time television producer who temporarily replaced Alex Trebek as the host on the game show Jeopardy!, has secured a significant role in the conservative broadcasting industry.

Richard assumes the role of President for Daily Wire Entertainment and Chief Content Officer at The Daily Wire, overseeing all entertainment ventures for the conservative media enterprise established by Ben Shapiro, which he will now manage.

Richard has come on board following the departure of Jeremy Borning, who previously held the position of CEO and resigned from the company in March. He will primarily be based at the company’s headquarters in Nashville.

Caleb Robinson succeeded Boreing as CEO of the company.

His employment indicates that The Daily Wire intends to further its aspirations beyond politics and commentary on news, potentially reducing some initiatives championed by Boreing, such as investments in children’s content and high-budget projects like “The Pendragon Cycle.

As a gamer, I’d rephrase that as: “We were seeking the answer, ‘Who is Mike Richards?’ And now we know he’s a vital player at The Daily Wire. With five Emmys under his belt and over 4,000 hours of network programming produced, he’s run some of the world’s most iconic shows. So, if you’re one of the ‘purple hairs’, keep silencing more creative minds like him.

Shapiro utilized a mix of political commentary and popular cultural references to grow the company into a significant force in non-traditional conservative media landscapes.

Of course, Richard had a long and varied career in television, serving both as a game show producer and host. He spent significant time at shows like “The Price Is Right” and “Let’s Make a Deal.” Later on, he moved to Sony where he took up the role of executive producer for “Jeopardy!”.

After Alex Trebek’s passing in 2020, Jeopardy! had various guest hosts for several months, including some episodes where Richards took over hosting duties. In August 2020, Sony, the show’s producer, officially appointed Richards as the permanent host of the program.

That role was short-lived, however, after comments he made on old podcasts came to light.

Last week I shared that I was pleased to be selected as the host for the syndicated program, looking forward to broadening my responsibilities,” Richards explained to his team following the release of the comments. “But in the past few days it’s become apparent that continuing as host would cause unnecessary distractions for our audience and wouldn’t be ideal for the show.

He subsequently also stepped aside as EP of the show.
