Forrest Goodluck Joins Bretten Hannam’s Supernatural Thriller ‘Place of Ghosts’ (Exclusive)

As a seasoned gamer who has traversed countless virtual worlds, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation when it comes to “Place of Ghosts.” Having grown up with titles like “The Revenant” and “Wildhood,” I’ve come to appreciate the rich storytelling that emerges from indigenous perspectives. Bretten Hannam, with his unique approach to filmmaking, seems to be carving out a niche for himself in this genre, and I can’t wait to see what he does next.

The actors Forest Goodluck, Blake Alec Miranda, Glen Gould, and Brandon Oakes have been cast as the main characters in Bretten Hannam’s supernatural thriller titled Place of Ghosts. Currently, filming is underway in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

In “The Revenant,” Goodluck took on the role of Hawk, a character who was the son of Hugh Glass, portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio. The third film by Hannam tells the story of Mise’l and Antle, two siblings who were once close friends but grew distant as they became adults.

When an evil, decaying spirit, marked by teeth and bones, starts haunting them, the siblings are compelled to reunite and venture into Skite’kmujuekati’k – the timeless forest realm of spirits, known as the Place of Ghosts – to confront their turbulent past, rooted in violence.

In the heart of the forest’s shadows, Mise’l and Antle journey, as the unspoken feelings guide their path, offering a fresh perspective on their relationship. They ultimately confront a malevolent force that looms over them, threatening to engulf them completely, according to Hannam, a Two-Spirit L’nu filmmaker, who describes the movie’s narrative.

Hannam is known for having written and directed the successful debut film “Wildhood”, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 2021. This movie marked a significant step forward, following the release of their first feature, “North Mountain”. Notably, this latter production challenged conventional norms within the thriller genre by featuring two-spirit Indigenous actors in roles that were typically reserved for white men.

In the shows S.W.A.T. and To and From, Alec Miranda played the lead roles; Gould was cast in Tulsa King and Pet Cemetery: Bloodlines; and Oakes acted in The Trades, Diggstown, Slasher, and Through Black Spruce.

The movie Ghostly Realm was created by Hannam, who also acts as a producer alongside Marc Tetreault, Jason Levangie, Martin Katz, Diana Elbaum, and David Ragonig. John R. Sylliboy assists in production, while Cotty Chubb oversees the project as executive producer.

Place of Ghosts will be released in Canada by VVS Films. World sales are being handled by Magnify.
