Fortnite fans are ready to throw their money at a Lord of the Rings collab

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I can confidently say that Fortnite has consistently delivered on the collaborations front, from pop culture icons to comic book titans. However, there’s one collaboration that seems to elude us all – The Lord of the Rings (LOTR).

In terms of Fortnite’s partnership history, it seems more appropriate to mention those we haven’t collaborated with yet, as we’ve teamed up with a vast array of properties, including Stranger Things, Star Wars, Family Guy, Futurama, DC Comics, and numerous Marvel crossovers. There are still many more collaborations that we’re eager to explore.

Although many have suggested adding a piece of Springfield to maps everywhere, other intellectual properties haven’t received the same treatment just yet. Notably, Warner Bros.’ extensive collection appears largely untapped beyond DC’s superheroes and villains. Couldn’t The Matrix, Godzilla, Harry Potter, or even The Lord of the Rings also make an appearance?

Fortnite fans demand The Lord of the Rings collab

What collab would you instantly buy, even though you know it will never be added?

On the FortniteBR subreddit, user u/RhysLightning95 inquired about their dream collaboration. While we agree with Rhys’ suggestion for a BoJack Horseman crossover, the most popular comment is expressing a desire for a journey to Middle-earth. A partnership with The Lord of the Rings seems like it would be a cash cow.

Despite the challenges posed by their small size, some people have proposed that hobbits could be featured as Back Blings on a rugged Gandalf skin. The most popular comment under this idea is, “The Lord of the Rings: Although we may never obtain the rights, it would be amusing to recreate the meme of Gandalf holding an AR. I’d buy any bundles, regardless of cost.”

Someone else added, “A witch king skin would be aaaaamazing,” while a third concluded, “I was literally talking to my friends the other day and said I would pay an absurd amount of money for a Gandalf skin.” Others in the comments were asking for the likes of Breaking Bad and Adventure Time, but TLOtR has a LOT of potential.

At present, The Rock Kid is hinting at a partnership with The Lord of the Rings on the island, and it appears he’s building a sandcastle that looks remarkably like one from Middle Earth! (Many thanks to @koooooomar & @FN_Assist for bringing this to my attention!)

Despite the possibility that Warner Bros. might not readily give up Middle-earth rights, there’s already been an impressive fan-made replica of Helm’s Deep in LEGO Fortnite. Moreover, a subtle reference to Helm’s Deep was found on the shore during Chapter 3 Season 3, while the franchise was referenced alongside DOOM and Family Guy. It seems that we are still waiting for Middle-earth to make its appearance.

As Peter Jackson gets back to Middle-earth for more films and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power returns with its second season, it’s not hard to imagine Fortnite raking in some substantial profits by incorporating this popular franchise. Frankly, we’ve witnessed stranger partnerships drop from the Battle Bus. Ahem, that Buff Peter Griffin collab comes to mind.
