The movie titled “Dead Lover” is the initial film purchase for a fresh distribution partnership between Cartuna and Dweck Productions. This transaction marks one of the early agreements from the 2025 SXSW Film Festival.
The Grace Glowicki-directed film was bought by Cartuna x Dweck at SXSW, where it first screened in Texas on March 9 following its initial showing in Sundance’s Midnight section earlier this year. In the Frankenstein-inspired project, Glowicki shares the screen with Ben Petrie, Leah Doz, and Lowen Morrow, as it combines horror, humor, and romance.
The film written and directed by Grace Glowicki was purchased by Cartuna x Dweck at SXSW, where it made its Texas debut on March 9, having premiered earlier this year in Sundance’s Midnight section. In the Frankenstein-inspired production, Glowicki stars alongside Ben Petrie, Leah Doz, and Lowen Morrow, creating a blend of horror, comedy, and romance.
The film, titled “Dead Lover“, features Glowicki in the role of a gravedigger who had a passionate relationship with Petrie, her ideal partner. Unfortunately, their love story takes an unfortunate turn when Petrie meets his untimely demise at sea. Desperate to reclaim her lost love, she becomes determined to bring him back to life using advanced scientific techniques.
Cartuna and Dweck are preparing for a theatrical debut, but specific launch dates have not been disclosed as of now. The film is directed by Tito (Glowicki) who collaborated with Petrie on the scriptwriting. Besides Glowicki and Petrie, Yona Strauss is also part of the production team. This movie originates from Neon Heart Productions.
James Belfer, founder and CEO of Cartuna, stated confidently that we are just beginning an influential creative era. With innovative storytellers requiring more distribution support than ever before, this group of producers has chosen to take control themselves. We genuinely hope that our actions will motivate others to follow suit.
Hannah Dweck, co-founder of Dweck Productions, shared her thoughts in a statement: “The inventiveness that Grace and her team have unearthed from their creative minds is unprecedented. We feel privileged to be involved with such an endlessly imaginative group. We can’t wait to unleash this wildly unrestrained, grotesque yet beautiful, stinky romantic comedy onto the world!
Cartuna, who established its film distribution division last year, is recognized for its role in distributing physical copies of the indie sensation from last year, “Hundreds of Beavers,” and also for funding the Broadway production of “Oh, Mary!”. Notably, Cartuna has been involved in producing independent films such as Jane Schoenbrun’s “We’re All Going to the World’s Fair” and Tyler Taormina’s “Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point.”
Cartuna, which recently set up its film distribution service, is famed for handling the physical release of last year’s indie smash hit, “Hundreds of Beavers”, and for investing in Broadway’s production of “Oh, Mary!”. It has also been associated with producing independent films like Jane Schoenbrun’s “We’re All Going to the World’s Fair” and Tyler Taormina’s “Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point.”
In both cases, the meaning remains consistent but the phrasing is varied.
Glowicki commented, “It’s fate that we’re collaborating with Cartuna x Dweck! Both companies have been strong advocates for unique voices in cinema, and we admire their vision for a powerful coalition producing films with a distinctive, innovative style. Ben, Yona, and I are excited to pool our ideas with them as we release Dead Lover!
