As a devoted movie enthusiast, let me share some disappointing news – Frasier has vacated Paramount+ premises, marking the end of its second revival season in January. With no word yet on Season 3, I can’t help but hope that this isn’t the final curtain call for the new Frasier. The main reason behind my optimism? A long-anticipated reunion with Cheers! Fingers crossed we get at least one more season to make it happen and satisfy our collective cravings for nostalgia.
Tonight, Deadline announced that Frasier‘s run has come to an end on Paramount+. Despite this, only the first two seasons will continue to be accessible for streaming by those with a Paramount+ subscription. However, CBS Studios is still invested in the series and intends to shop it around to other networks. Potential new platforms for Frasier include Prime Video and Hulu, given their ownership of the original series.
Although I don’t find the revival of Frasier as impressive as its original series that aired on NBC from 1993 to 2004, widely recognized as one of the greatest sitcoms ever made, I’ve still appreciated it for what it offered: delving into Frasier Crane’s new life in his old Boston, Massachusetts environment. Moreover, I haven’t objected to spending time with mostly fresh characters in the revival, and it has been gratifying to reconnect with familiar faces as well. This has extended from Peri Gilpin’s Roz Doyle being given a larger role in Season 2 after her guest appearance in the Season 1 finale, to when Frasier and his son Freddy visited Seattle and reconnected with KACL’s Bulldog and Gil.
Previously, I mentioned that the upcoming series “Frasier” is set in Boston, the same city where the popular TV show “Cheers” was based and introduced Frasier Crane to us. It’s been clarified multiple times that the revival won’t focus on Cheers the bar, but I was fine with that. However, there was a possibility of bringing back other cast members from “Cheers”. Kelsey Grammer expressed his desire for Ted Danson and Shelley Long to reprise their roles as Sam Malone and Diane Chambers respectively, and the showrunners of “Frasier”, Chris Harris and Joe Cristali, mentioned they had some ideas for stories involving “Cheers” characters.
I didn’t anticipate the revival of Frasier to last nearly as long as the original series did, but it would be premature to conclude the show at this point without including the promised crossover with Cheers. If we’re going to bring Frasier Crane back to Boston, it seems fitting for him to reconnect with some of his old friends from the ’80s. Given that he has a history with Sam and Diane, it would be particularly satisfying if they appeared in the revival, even if the new Frasier only runs for one more season. As long as there’s an episode dedicated to delving back into the world of Cheers, I think that would suffice. It was always a possibility, so let’s make it happen, if you catch my drift.
If “Frasier” becomes available on another popular streaming platform, we will keep you updated. In the meantime, check out our 2025 TV schedule for upcoming shows airing soon.
