Freaky Friday 2: Disney Shares First Look at Chad Michael Murray's Return

As a huge fan of the original “Freaky Friday” movie, I’m beyond thrilled to hear that Disney is bringing us a sequel with Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis reprising their iconic roles! And not just them, but Chad Michael Murray is also returning as Jake, my crush from the 2003 film. I still remember how I used to have a poster of him on my wall back in the day.

Filming is in progress for the upcoming “Freaky Friday 2” movie, with Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis set to repeat their renowned characters. Not just them, other familiar faces from the previous cast are coming back, which include Chad Michael Murray, Haley Hudson, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Stephen Tobolowsky, Lucille Soong, Rosalind Chao, and Mark Harmon.

In the early stages of promoting “Freaky Friday 2,” Disney gave fans a sneak peek of a beloved character making his return: Chad Michael Murray. Disney shared an Instagram post featuring Murray, dressed in costume and seated on a motorcycle. The post’s caption read, “Jake is back! Get ready for the new ‘Freaky Friday,’ hitting theaters in 2025.”

In the 2003 adaptation of “Freaky Friday,” Murray played the role of Jake. For those who may need a reminder, he was the romantic interest for Lohan’s character in the ’00s teen sensation. Jake was depicted as a young, kind boy who rode a motorcycle. Initially, this casting choice drew objections from Curtis. However, once their bodies had been switched, Jake became infatuated with Curtis instead, leading to comedic chaos.

Mark Waters wasn’t at the helm for “Freaky Friday 2,” contrary to what occurred in the initial film. Instead, Nisha Ganatra, who previously directed “Welcome to Chippendales,” will be in charge. In addition, Manny Jacinto from “The Acolyte,” Julia Butters, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, and Sophia Hammons have signed on for the sequel. The story unfolds two decades after the first installment, with Lohan’s Anna being a mother to a teenager and preparing to become a stepmother herself. As they confront the complexities of blending families, Anna and her own mother, Tess (Curtis), come to the realization that extreme actions may be necessary.

Curtis and Lohan have expressed their desire for a “Freaky Friday” sequel for quite some time. They’ve worked hard for over twenty years to bring the project to life, and just recently managed to get it approved for production. With filming now underway at Disney, Lohan shares her excitement and feeling of being a kid once more.

Last year, before any announcement about a sequel, Curtis shared a throwback photo of him and Lohan on set to celebrate the original film’s 20th anniversary. Both actresses have publicly expressed their deep connection to the movie, making it evident that they hold fond memories of filming together. The rest of the cast likely feels the same way, explaining why many of them are returning for the new project.

The movie Freaky Friday 2 from Disney, unlike some late sequels such as Hocus Pocus 2, will have a theatrical release instead of being exclusively streamed on Disney+. This decision may raise fans’ expectations that the film could match or even surpass its predecessor.
