From Early Bird to Night Owl: How Epic Universe Changed My Theme Park Experience

At theme parks, I’ve found that arriving early often provides a smoother experience. Parking becomes less of a hassle and you can beat the crowd to the ticketing line, which usually opens before the park does. This means you can enjoy relatively short lines for popular rides for an hour or two before the park gets busy. Over the past 10+ years, this approach has been my go-to strategy as an adult, but the opening of Epic Universe seems to have changed that notion.

There Are So Many Reasons Why Nighttime Is A+ At Epic Universe

I had a visit to Epic Universe when it recently opened, and I managed to enjoy the park at Universal Orlando both during daytime and nighttime hours. Both experiences were fantastic, and for those who prefer early mornings, let me assure you that Epic Universe remains an attractive destination even under the sunlit sky.

Indeed, I suggest spending your time at the park during the evening for several reasons, which will become even more applicable as the days grow shorter and the sun sets earlier throughout the year.

Epic Universe Is At Its Peak Aesthetic During Nighttime Hours.

I must admit, the enchantment of Epic Universe truly shines at night. It’s evident that this park was designed with the magic of twilight in mind. It’s no wonder the Dark Universe comes alive during the evening, when characters stir and the Burning Blade tavern glows with a fiery glow.

Not only does the supposedly spooky Dark Universe part of the park become even creepier at night, but the entire park maintains a lively vibe during evening hours. For instance, the Harry Potter section in Paris takes on a circus-like ambiance when it’s illuminated. Similarly, How to Train Your Dragon: Isle of Berk becomes more charming as ships and coasters are bathed in light, with the coaster humming softly in the background. Moreover, the dual coasters of Stardust Racers seem to shine like two shooting stars against the night sky. As you traverse from one land to another and embark on various adventures, the park seems more vibrant and alive.

From my perspective, Super Nintendo World truly shines during daylight hours, but everyone’s enjoyment might differ. Generally speaking, most parts of this world seem to be more appealing when it’s not nighttime.

The Shade In Epic Universe Is Lacking.

Previously, when I shared some advice for visiting Epic Universe, I casually mentioned that Florida can get really hot. One reason I’ve often preferred to visit the parks early is to make the most of my time before the day gets too scorching. This applies even to parks with plenty of tree cover, such as Islands of Adventure and Disney World’s Animal Kingdom.

At Epic Universe, a freshly constructed theme park, the greenery is as new as the park itself. Although shade may become more prevalent in certain areas over time, currently, the design of the landscaping, particularly in Celestial Park and throughout the other sections, can be quite warm due to the lack of established tree cover.

One way to work around this? Go to Epic Universe in the evening!

Celestial Park Is Worth Checking Out At Dinnertime.

One reason I’ve always been a fan of daytime theme park visits is because I enjoy arriving early, enjoying rides without long lines, and then retiring to the hotel for relaxation or a dip in the pool. The main appeal for me is having the energy to explore unique dining options later on. At other Universal Parks, I’ve usually preferred to dine at The Palm at Hard Rock, Big Fire in CityWalk (a hub of excellent restaurants), or sometimes Bar 17 Bistro on the rooftop at Adventura.

CityWalk offers numerous outstanding restaurants, shopping, and dining options, making it an excellent choice for an evening outing. However, Epic Universe is located a bit farther from most Universal hotels except Grand Helios and Stella Nova. Moreover, one of its main attractions lies in the exceptional dining experiences within the park itself.

At Epic Universe, even the portable park cuisine seems more appealing than typical fare, but what truly stands out is the abundance of excellent dining options in Celestial Park. I found the food at Oak and Star Tavern, as well as The Atlantic, to be particularly enjoyable. For a more casual vibe, Blue Dragon Pan Asian offers a charming bar area that’s perfect for adults without children. Additionally, Universal recently announced the arrival of two new restaurants in the upcoming park.

The food options at Epic Universe are better than usual, but Celestial Park really shines with its sit-down restaurants. I loved eating at Oak and Star Tavern, The Atlantic, and Blue Dragon Pan Asian has a cute bar area for grown-ups without kids. Universal also announced two new eateries coming to the new park soon!

Even though Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, and Volcano Bay continue to expand their distinctive culinary offerings, I believe that dining here offers a greater appeal compared to numerous other parks in the evening.

So, How Did I Come To This Epic Universe Conclusion?

It appears there have been concerns raised about Epic Universe closing at 9 p.m. on certain days, while some other theme parks remain open until 10 p.m., followed by transferring guests directly to CityWalk, which operates late into the night and leads to cars or hotels.

You’ll have a fantastic time at Universal Orlando, but there’s more to explore! I’ve been to Epic Universe during both daytime and nighttime, and I must say, my favorite so far has been the nighttime experience, even though the parks close at 9 p.m. Having tried both options, I’m planning my next visit to rise early, spend a leisurely morning by the pool, then visit the parks in the afternoon and extend into the evening. It’s often less crowded at the beginning and end of the day, allowing for more rides if you don’t mind staying late.

Despite the fact that parks can be busy even at night, there’s such an abundance of sights and activities to enjoy that I’ve become a firm believer myself.

To be honest, I’ve always been a morning person when it comes to visiting other amusement parks. However, Epic Universe has managed to shift my perspective on nighttime activities with its unique theming and exceptional experiences. Fortunately, there’s no set way to enjoy theme parks, and Epic Universe offers plenty to explore and experience… at any time of the day.
