Give Louis C.K. some credit.
In 2016, before many, if not all, of his contemporaries, the comic labeled Donald Trump as being similar to Adolf Hitler. At that time, Trump was relatively new in the political world.
For a moment, it was amusing… However, he’s like Hitler. To clarify, I mean we’re finding ourselves in a similar position as Germany during the 1930s.
The nation managed well during the four-year reign comparable to Hitler’s, by C.K., and we are grateful for that. Unfortunately, C.K.’s actions regarding sexual misconduct became widely known in 2017, essentially ending his career in Hollywood (it seems permanently). Since then, the comedian has created a new path for himself, but he no longer provides advice on voting to Americans.
Following Louis C.K.’s “admonition,” Sarah Silverman donned a disguise resembling Adolf Hitler to reinforce her comparison with Donald Trump.
Comedians who lean heavily to the political left have often compared Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler since his election. They’ve even extended this comparison to criticize people who voted for him as well.
A full decade has passed since the real estate tycoon declared his candidacy for president, stepping off an escalator at Trump Tower, and they’re still carrying on with their actions.
Up until now, there hasn’t been any behavior reminiscent of Adolf Hitler during that period, which is quite significant. Incredibly, there isn’t a closer ally for Israel than President Trump.
The most recent remark comparing Trump to Hitler has been made by Larry David, a prominent figure from the hit show “Curb Your Enthusiasm”. At the age of 77, he penned a satirical opinion piece in The New York Times, criticizing another comedian for engaging with President Trump.
As a fan, I must admit that not many satirists have been as critical of Trump as Bill Maher. Yet, despite his sharp tongue, I found myself accepting an invitation for a dinner with the President – the Commander in Chief himself.
Over the past few months, Maher has been actively engaging in vigorous discussions with individuals from the conservative side, such as Kid Rock, Riley Gaines, Dave Rubin, among others.
He handles things with a mix of humor, intelligence, and most importantly, respect. It’s refreshing to hear him say that we can have disagreements, which is a sentiment particularly relevant in the year 2025. Interestingly, Trump has put aside his past insults towards Maher by signing a written list of them.
Maher shared his thoughts on that Trump dinner via HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher.”
David found it difficult to accept when Alan Dershowitz publicly defended Trump on certain issues, as he had previously expressed strong disagreement with him in public.
David’s satirical article titled “Dining with Adolf,” humorously criticized Maher for claiming that Trump is not the same individual as portrayed on television.
Initially, I was all set for an encounter with Hitler, the figure I’d only known through public appearances. Yet, the private Hitler presented a totally distinct persona. Intriguingly, it was this hidden side that appeared more genuine, as if it truly revealed who Hitler really was. The situation left me quite bewildered.
The piece lacks a single laugh line, but David gives away his hand early.
Despite understanding that it’s unlikely to alter their perspectives, it’s crucial for us to engage with those who hold problematic beliefs – such as those who have invaded and annexed other nations, and have been implicated in atrocities against humanity – for the sake of open dialogue and potential resolution.
For David, engaging with opposing views, often referred to as “talking to the other side,” is not part of his approach. This stance becomes clearer when we examine his public criticism of Dershowitz, a friend and fellow liberal. In his view, Republicans generally don’t merit time, compassion, or understanding from him. (The former cast member of “Curb” expresses this perspective.)
He’s not alone, sadly.
David often encounters a predicament that numerous other comedians are also facing. For instance, The Daily Beast criticized Stephen Colbert for losing his sense of humor during the Trump era. Similarly, Jimmy Kimmel Live! tends to lack humor when its host either sheds tears or points an accusatory finger at the audience about some supposed Trump wrongdoing.
Kimmel recently dubbed his late-night platform a “place to scream.”
Humorists have the ability to soften difficult periods and confront authority with a frankness that others may not. Even as a comedian, one can point out the imperfections in President Trump’s second term, along with his inflated self-importance.
Instead, many fall back on the Trump Is Hitler card.
- It’s safe – no Hollywood insider will judge you on it.
- It’s easy – no punchline required!
- It’s lazy – the joke is pushing 10 years old and is as edgy as a used butter knife.
In a less harsh manner, despite Donald Trump’s numerous shortcomings, comparing him to Adolf Hitler is simply foolish or ill-informed, at most. User Joel M. Petlin might have presented David’s argument in the most appropriate light.
Larry David has a strong opinion on the now famous White House dinner, calling out @Billmaher for conspiring with his political enemy. They are both talented comedians and will figure out their issues.

It’s shocking to witness [David] who hasn’t spoken up in support of Jews or Israel since October 7th, now using his significant platform to trivialize the Holocaust by flippantly mentioning the individual responsible for the annihilation of Larry’s relatives, my family, and countless others.
It’s important to express criticism towards Trump in a respectful manner, avoiding distasteful comparisons, given the current climate where Holocaust deniers have gained prominence in podcasts and anti-Semitic incidents are increasing on American streets and universities.
