1 Tip #1 – Understanding resource management

In Frostpunk Beyond the Ice, the main gameplay revolves around effectively managing essential resources like food and coal, ensuring warmth and sustenance for your community. To put it simply, these are the crucial necessities that keep your society functioning smoothly. It’s vital to assign roles wisely among your survivors so they can assist you better in this challenging environment.

Coal is #1!

One crucial resource to pay attention to is coal. This vital energy source powers your generator, ensuring the survival of your population. Without a steady supply of coal, your community could face drastic decline. To prevent this, it’s essential to establish numerous Coal Mines and ensure they are well-maintained. The more coal you can mine and store, the stronger your settlement will be as each new structure added requires more power from the generator to function effectively.

To examine the Generator mode, simply tap on it. Then, assess the Demand and Output it generates. By navigating to the adjustment area (the button resembling filters), you’ll find a heatmap displaying the locations of buildings. Remember to continually monitor the Generator’s energy usage.

Regarding your food supply (alongside other essential resources), it’s crucial that you construct a greenhouse for farming food, a lumberyard for timber production, and from the Tax Office, you’ll receive Shillings.

2 Tip #2 – Expand your population


To increase your population steadily, it’s essential to continue expanding beyond the Generator. This growth requires setting up additional tents, luxury tents, and dormitories, which will provide space for more inhabitants.

Strive to construct as many dwellings as possible at all times, since you’ll need them all in the end. Every survivor will be essential! The only method to expand your population is by expanding your living quarters. To add more dwellings, simply navigate to Queue > Dwelling, select your preferred design, and then place it close to a heated road.

3 Tip #3 – Trading is your friend


Initially in the game, earning Shillings will largely depend on trading. It would be beneficial for you to focus on producing items that your potential trading partners require, then engage in trades with them. This approach not only provides you with Shillings but also Experience Points and other valuable goods, making it highly recommended.

If a trade window pops up and you lack the necessary items to fulfill it, just click the ‘X’ button to close the window instead of declining the trade. Refusing it might upset others and lower your standing. Instead, click ‘X’, then gather the required materials at your convenience to complete the trade later on.

Trade Base

In addition to other options, you’re welcome to transact businesses involving items within the Trade Base by using Shillings. If you have a surplus of an item, you can take it there and essentially use it like an auction house – you set your own price, list the items you wish to sell, and when someone purchases them, you’ll receive the agreed amount of Shillings.

For purchasing items, it couldn’t be easier – just navigate to the ‘Purchasing’ section and you’ll find everything you require is available for purchase!

4 Tip #4 – Be prepared and stock in advance


As a gamer, I find myself constantly checking the resource bar at the screen’s peak, observing my production rate per minute. To excel in this game, it’s essential to keep crafting items in my Production Workshop. These creations could be valuable trade goods, so let’s ensure they’re always being produced and not left idle.

An effective strategy for rapid advancement is to utilize spare moments to create or accumulate resources. This tip is highly valuable, particularly when you find yourself at a loss for tasks.

5 Tip #5 – Always improve and research


I strongly advise that you enhance your small community consistently by continually updating existing structures and discovering novel innovations. You might begin by elevating (upgrading) all the structures currently in place, followed by constructing new ones. Remember, it’s crucial to stay current with technology and legislation, so be sure not to neglect either aspect.

Instead of juggling tasks that require time, consider postponing them until you’ve finished playing games for the day, allowing them to finish during the night while you are asleep.

6 Tip #6 – There are a couple of things you can buy if you want to spend money


If you’re eager to splurge but unsure of where to direct your funds, I’d suggest diving into the HEAT VIP Pass first. Essentially, it serves a similar purpose as a battle pass in other games, offering you valuable perks that match its cost.

In Frostpunk: Beyond the Ice, having your City Pass means you can explore any attractions at your leisure. I personally don’t prefer the daily packs because they require daily purchases, which can add up and cost more over time. Instead, I recommend spending your money on a pass for the best value in my opinion.

7 Tip #7 – Keep an eye on things to help you improve


As a gamer, I’d highly recommend that you regularly check up on every aspect of your in-game settlement. Keep tabs on your Generator, resource generation, and the wellbeing of your survivors – their support is crucial for boosting your Approval Rating. Always aim for maximum support. Fix any issues to ensure a thriving and prosperous settlement!
