Frozen Star Josh Gad Reveals His One Regret Over Voicing Olaf

Frozen Star Josh Gad Reveals His One Regret Over Voicing Olaf

As a long-time fan of Disney movies and a connoisseur of voice acting performances, I can’t help but admire Josh Gad‘s honesty about his one small regret when it comes to voicing Olaf in Frozen. While it may seem like an odd choice for some, the magic that Gad’s unique voice brings to life is undeniable. The joy and laughter that children experience when they hear Olaf’s voice coming from Gad’s mouth is a testament to the power of storytelling and the enduring appeal of Frozen.

Since the release of “Frozen” in 2013, it’s tough to think that Josh Gad could ever feel remorseful about playing the lovable character Olaf. Nevertheless, Gad does express one disappointment regarding his portrayal of Olaf within the Disney universe. Specifically, if given another opportunity, Gad wishes he would have experimented with a different voice for the screen version of Olaf. During an interview at Fan Expo Canada, Gad explained this further.

Reflecting on the past, I wish I hadn’t given that snowman my distinctive voice. Instead, I would’ve crafted a new one for him. It’s quite peculiar when people, especially little kids in supermarkets, react with surprise, mimicking me. That was my initial blunder, but as it turns out, many find my voice unusual and appealing. So, whenever possible, I try to share it with others.

Looking back, it’s clear to see, and Olaf once said, “There’s one thing that never changes: love.” Consider the joy children feel upon hearing Olaf’s voice emanating from Gad, even if it’s in a supermarket or any other public place.

Although Gad may carry one lingering regret, let’s not overlook the enchantment his voice brings about, causing children to chuckle and beam with delight whenever he’s around. Also, remember that Gad has been honored with numerous Behind the Voice Actors Awards (BTVA) for his portrayal of the lovable snowman. Moreover, there are still two upcoming Frozen sequels where you can enjoy more of Olaf’s voice.

It’s common knowledge among the dedicated fans of “Frozen” that two additional movies are being developed. However, Disney may have missed the mark in communication when it came to informing Josh Gad and his fellow actors about the planned 2027 release of a new “Frozen” installment featuring Elsa (Idina Menzel), Anna (Kristen Bell), and Olaf on the big screen. In fact, Gad revealed during an appearance on “LIVE with Kelly and Mark” that he only found out this year at D23 that “Frozen III” and “Frozen IV” were in production, as he had no prior knowledge of their existence.

Here in Greece, my phone started buzzing non-stop with messages. Friends were ecstatically talking about Frozen 3 and 4, and I found myself joining their excitement with a “So am I?” [Laughter]. I had no clue it was happening until now, but I’ve recently learned that not one, but two sequels to our movie are in the works. I can hardly contain my enthusiasm for what they’re planning; it sounds absolutely incredible!

As a dedicated movie enthusiast, I can’t help but marvel at the box office triumphs of Disney’s “Frozen” franchise. The original 2013 film and its sequel in 2019 were nothing short of blockbusters, raking in an astonishing $1.27 billion and $1.45 billion respectively, according to The Numbers. And with the eagerly anticipated “Frozen III” hitting theaters on November 24, 2027, we’ll finally be revisiting the enchanting kingdom of Arendelle once more.
