As a long-time wrestling enthusiast who’s seen more than a few Saturday Night’s Main Events, I can confidently say that this one is shaping up to be quite the spectacle! The roster is stacked with top talent from all corners of the WWE universe, and it’s clear that the bookers have put a lot of thought into crafting some intriguing matchups.
Saturday Night’s Main Event is back, and I’m so stoked I want to throw on polka dots and dance like an aging Dusty Rhodes or maybe have a snack of turnbuckle stuffing in honor of George The Animal Steele. I love The Golden Age Of Wrestling. There’s something about it that makes me want to sprint to the ring Ultimate Warrior style and give a Hacksaw Jim Duggan thumbs up. Fortunately, now is the chance for all of us to relive those glory days alongside Jesse The Body Ventura.
Indeed! The iconic 80s announcer is returning to the commentary desk (Farewell, Gorilla Monsoon), and it’s not just his presence that seems to be taking a trip down memory lane. Reports suggest that we might witness vintage graphics, but there are whispers of retro entrances too, with appearances from 80s legends potentially on the cards, and even an old-school ring could be in store! I can hardly contain my excitement. So, secure your cherished bulldog belonging to Bobby Heenan, dust off your boisterous Jimmy Hart megaphone, and prepare for a high-flying move from the top ropes like Macho Man Randy Savage. Brace yourself for some electrifying wrestling action!
Tonight’s wrestling event promises to be quite spectacular, as WWE is setting up a lineup that rivals a major pay-per-view. Four titles are at stake, and the fifth match features veterans who have headlined WrestleMania before. I have some theories brewing, which I’d love to share with you – think of it as planting seeds in your mind, akin to an orator standing boldly in the ring, much like the eloquent Genius. Let me first give you a glimpse of how my predictions have fared…
As a fan, I may not have an unbeaten record spanning 15 years like Andre The Giant, but securing this win would still be a significant achievement for me. Fingers crossed that the Main Event this weekend will add a few more victories to my tally and leave me standing as strong and imposing as Ravishing Rick Rude, or as radiant and transformed as Miss Elizabeth.
Sami Zayn Vs Drew McIntyre
I’m glad I chose to celebrate like Ric Flair last weekend and delayed my predictions until Tuesday, as this match was unexpectedly added to the schedule. Regardless, I’m excited for it! Drew McIntyre is set to make his in-ring return after his encounter with CM Punk at Hell In A Cell, and he’s eager to channel his frustration towards Sami Zayn, who steps up to defend the honor of his fallen ally Jey Uso, whom McIntyre attacked.
Zayn is clearly receiving an overwhelming response from the audience and keeps finding himself in significant story arcs. This popularity of his consistently lands him key roles in major events, but it seems likely that he’ll lose this time around. McIntyre needs to regain his standing as a headline act following his defeat against Punk, and by challenging The Bloodline, he sets the stage for numerous interactions or possible matches with various opponents. If he loses here, the conflict ends. He won’t progress to face Jey Uso if he’s already lost to Sami Zayn. In essence, I anticipate McIntyre will emerge victorious in a strong manner, although it remains unclear whether he’ll demand a 5-count reminiscent of King Kong Bundy’s style in his victory.
Predicted Winner: Drew McIntyre
Liv Morgan (Champion) Vs Iyo Sky For The Women’s World Championship
It’s quite likely that WWE is taking notice of the enthusiastic responses Iyo Sky is eliciting from crowds since she stands out as one of the most popular female wrestlers across the entire roster. Her performances are akin to discovering a long-lost member of the Bushwhackers, causing such excitement among spectators. This enthusiasm is not surprising, given her exceptional skills in the ring and her lively, unique personality that sets her apart from others. I’d be thrilled if she were to claim the Women’s World Championship once more.
However, will this be the instance when Rhea Ripley reclaims her top spot? This hinges on WWE’s plans for Rhea Ripley. Akin to Hulk Hogan during the prime of Hulkamania in the mid-to-late 80s, Ripley is undeniably the most beloved female superstar in WWE currently. It seems inevitable that she will regain the title at some point, as the main star usually holds the belt for a significant portion of time. Yet, she also has much to settle with Morgan, who took her admired Dirty Dom Mysterio (the mustached man candy) and now possesses her championship.
It seems that WWE might be planning for Ripley to defeat Morgan in their ongoing feud and reclaim the Women’s World Championship around the same time, but there’s a chance they could divide her objectives. If Morgan loses the title soon, Ripley could wrap up her issues with Morgan over the next month or two, then aim for another shot at the World Championship during WrestleMania. I’m inclined to think WWE will hold onto Liv Morgan’s title for now and have her defeat Iyo Sky instead, but it’s not a definite prediction.
Predicted Winner: Liv Morgan
Gunther (Champion) Vs Damian Priest Vs Finn Bálor For The World Heavyweight Championship
The standout Saturday Night’s Main Event episode is undeniably Hulk Hogan vs Andre The Giant II, but it’s worth noting that many times, Hulk Hogan wasn’t really facing opponents with a strong chance of victory. Instead, he often wrestled other legends like Big Boss Man or Harley Race. Although these individuals are Hall of Famers, they rarely defeated Hogan on live television. Similarly, Finn Bálor hasn’t managed to beat Gunther in a one-on-one match on Pay-Per-View since he defeated Edge at Extreme Rules in October 2022.
However, the contest isn’t just between Finn Bálor and Gunther now. Following some unexpected events on Monday, Damian Priest has been included in the match. This means that any outcome is possible. Gunther might lose his World Heavyweight Championship without being pinned, but both Priest and Bálor have been World Champions before, making them equally plausible contenders for the title again.
It seems that the question is about possible scenarios for the World Heavyweight Championship leading up to WrestleMania.
Among all the possibilities, it’s my preference that Gunther maintains his dominance and defeats both opponents as if he were Haku in a bar brawl. Therefore, I believe he should emerge victorious in this match, and in an 80s-esque fashion, he will likely use Brutus The Barber Beefcake’s signature move: The Sleeper, to achieve the win.
Predicted Winner: Gunther
The Women’s United States Championship Match
In this wrestling event, we could see a contest between Bayley or Chelsea Green against Michin or Tiffany Stratton. However, it’s speculated that the matchup will likely be Chelsea vs Tiffany Stratton (known as “Tiffy Time” among fans). But, we won’t know for sure until the semi-final matches take place on Friday Night Smackdown. So, I’ll revisit this post and provide an update once the details are confirmed.
Based on current performances, it seems likely that Chelsea Green and Tiffany Stratton will face each other in the finals, with Chelsea Green potentially becoming The United States Champion. There’s no one else on the roster currently excelling at the midcard level quite like her. In interviews, she’s expressed aspirations similar to The Miz and hopes to emulate his career. She’s perfectly positioned for this, and a victory here would be strong evidence of that. Here’s hoping she achieves this milestone and embarks on a successful midcard championship run that would make Honky Tonk Man smile with approval.
Predicted Winner: TBD
Cody Rhodes (Champion) Vs Kevin Owens For The WWE Championship
Man, let me tell you, I’ve been thoroughly impressed with Kevin Owens in his feud with Cody Rhodes. At first, I thought he was just a filler opponent for Cody, but boy, was I wrong! This rivalry has been so captivating that it makes me wish it would last even longer. Sometimes we forget just how talented KO is. There’s something about him that feels significant, reminiscent of Ted Dibiase – whatever he does, it feels relevant. He steps up to main event programs effortlessly and always seems to fit right in. It’s easy to overlook his skills, but when you see him in action, you can’t help but appreciate how perfectly he carries the weight of a top-tier feud.
There’s been a lot of discussion online about how it could be exciting for WWE to have Kevin Owens win this match. This decision would introduce an unexpected twist to the event and give Owens his first WWE Championship, something he hasn’t achieved yet. Personally, I’d be thrilled if Triple H took a risk and awarded the title to Owens, but I’m not expecting it to happen based on my understanding of the current situation.
In recent times, WWE has occasionally surprised us (like when Shinsuke Nakamura defeated LA Knight at Survivor Series), but generally, their bookers have chosen to prioritize orderliness and reason over turmoil. This approach has largely been beneficial. For instance, it enabled Roman Reigns to have an exceptional title reign, and it made Gunther appear as a formidable, almost invincible threat for years. Maintaining the top contenders at the top is usually advantageous, and Cody has held the position of the pure babyface champion for quite some time. Although I understand the enthusiasm for Owens and would share it myself, I believe the most probable outcome will be Cody emerging victorious in this instance.
Predicted Winner: Cody Rhodes
On this coming Saturday night, the main event will be aired on NBC during the evening hours. You have several ways to catch it – tune in on NBC, or stream it on Peacock, or use other streaming platforms. Take a step back and relive the excitement; you won’t be let down!
