  • Metro Boomin’s rep states the sample was cleared and that they had paid $50,000 USD

The musical artists Future, Metro Boomin, and Kendrick Lamar are being sued due to a 2024 collaboration titled “Like That”. Rodney O claims that he hasn’t been compensated for the use of his song “Everlasting Bass”, which is sampled in the track aimed at both Drake and J. Cole.

According to documents obtained by TMZ Hip Hop, Epic Records attempted to negotiate a deal with Rodney O, but they did not secure the necessary clearance to release the version of the song featuring Dot. Rodney O also mentioned that no one from the label inquired about any relationship he might have had with Drake, and furthermore, his writing credit was omitted when the song was nominated for a GRAMMY award.

Rodney O is also suing Barry White’s estate, as his samples was included in Ye’s “Like That” remix.

Metro Boomin’s representative informed TMZ Hip Hop that the necessary clearance was granted for the sample. They further stated that a total of $50,000 USD was paid to legally use the track. The producer’s rep added that it might be Rodney O who should address concerns with the White estate, as they could be holding onto the royalties.

The track “Like That” made its appearance on Future and Metro’s collaborative album titled WE DON’T TRUST YOU. It soared to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart upon release, and garnered nominations for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance at the GRAMMY Awards.
