Fyre Festival 2 is already starting off on a rough note… again.
After tickets were made available for the festival rumored to be happening on Isla Mujeres, a Mexican island near the coast, the local tourist authority stated that they are unaware of such an event taking place.
Edgar Gasca, a member of Isla Mujeres’ tourism department, informed The Guardian last week that they haven’t interacted with anyone or any organization concerning the festival, stating, “To us, it appears as though this event is non-existent.” It seems no permits have been applied for in relation to this supposed event.
Gasca stated that this upcoming festival is unlikely, as there are numerous warning signs. If you input the coordinates given on their website into Google Maps, it leads you to the ocean, specifically the area between Cancún and Isla Mujeres.
Eight years have passed since the first Fyre Festival concluded catastrophically, stranding its participants in the Bahamas and resulting in its organizer, Billy McFarland, admitting guilt for fraudulent activities. Now, we’re hearing about the unveiling of Fyre Festival 2.
In reaction to the remarks made by Isla Mujeres’ tourism board, McFarland posted a defense of the festival on his Instagram account Tuesday evening.
As a gamer speaking up, I wanted to share some exclusive insights directly from me:
1. Fyre 2 is definitely happening!
2. We’ve got top-notch partners spearheading the festival who handle all the nitty-gritty details like logistics, productions, and operations.
3. They’re backed by an awe-inspiring production team in Mexico, a group that doesn’t mess around when it comes to event management.
4. Rest assured, this isn’t some sham festival; they wouldn’t take on such a project if it wasn’t the real deal!
McFarland additionally tackled issues related to accommodations since Gasca shared with The Guardian that he contacted the hotels Fyre had listed on its site and they all stated they were unaware of the festival. “The organizers failed to reach out to the authorities,” Gasca commented. “It’s quite peculiar because any event manager understands that obtaining municipal authorization is crucial, especially for a large-scale event.
He remarked, “I believe they assumed that by merely announcing it, people might take interest, and later on, they’d apply for the necessary permits. This approach seems rather optimistic.
However, according to McFarland, “We have accommodations.”
Given the complications related to the Fyre 1 situation, it’s crucial that we pay close attention to certain aspects. These aspects involve our arrangements – like contracts for villas, yachts, hotels, and so on. Unfortunately, two hotels communicated false information to the media, claiming they had no knowledge of us or any collaboration with Fyre. Upon learning this, I instructed my team to cancel those contracts and instead focus efforts on cooperative hotels and partners who are eager to assist and back Fyre.
2025’s Fyre Fest 2 tickets went on sale at the end of February, priced between $1,400 and $25,000, with a special $1 million package too. If the event gets canceled, refundable ticket options are guaranteed. The festival will happen from May 30 to June 2, 2025.
Currently, no artists or performers have been officially confirmed for the festival, but McFarland stated on Tuesday that “We do indeed have talent lined up – including musicians, athletes, and entertainers – who are set to appear at Fyre 2.”
McFarland emphasized in his video that he and his team have kept in touch with local and state officials to guarantee adherence to regulations and a successful event that positively impacts the economy, showcases the stunning Mexican Caribbean, and contributes towards making amends for past mistakes. In other words, Fyre 2 is proceeding and from now on, updates will be shared directly by him.
