G20’s

In the latest action flick from Prime Video titled “G20”, Viola Davis delivers an intense performance as U.S. President Danielle Sutton, taking down terrorists with unmatched determination. Joining her on this thrilling journey is Anthony Anderson, portraying Derek Sutton, the First Gentleman. Although the idea of a Black family in the White House may still be challenging for some, Anderson finds it unremarkable, stating that such representation in the film should now be expected.

In an engaging conversation with George Edelman from MovieWeb, Anderson, alongside co-stars Marsai Martin and Christopher Farrar, delved into various aspects of their upcoming action movie. The topic of Black representation arose, along with how they approached this theme in the Prime Video film, set to debut on April 10th. Interestingly, the depiction of a Black family residing in the White House isn’t the primary focus of the movie; instead, it’s a natural and accepted part of the narrative. Anderson emphasized that this portrayal is crucial, especially now, as the Obamas have paved the way by breaking through racial barriers.

Dealing with it as we did reflects how things ought to be in reality. There’s no need for debate about it. It mirrors the diverse world we inhabit. The fact that there’s a Black or brown family in the White House should be an accepted part of our society, not something surprising; let’s simply carry on.

Apart from Davis, Anderson, Martin, and Farrar, the G20 cast also includes Ramón Rodríguez (Puerto Rican actor), MeeWha Alana Lee (Korean-American actress), Emmanuel Castis (South African star), and Sabrina Impacciatore (Italian actress). This indicates that the film is embracing diverse representation across various cultures. The movie has been receiving positive reviews, with Will Saye from MovieWeb praising it in his review.

It’s unfortunate that the movie G20 is moving to Prime Video, as the energetic audience at the packed preview screening we attended was absolutely electric. The exuberant crowd perfectly matched their reactions to every small plot twist and turn presented in Davis’ latest role, a film directed by the acclaimed Patricia Riggen.

Anthony Anderson Explains How the Obamas Helped Bring His Character to Life

Apart from chatting with MovieWeb, Anderson also had an interview with US Weekly prior to the premiere of G20. During this conversation, he discussed how the loving relationship between Barack and Michelle Obama influenced the acting decisions made by him and Davis. Known for their open displays of affection, the Obamas’ bond is something that the actors aimed to depict in their performance on screen.

In our portrayal on screen, we aimed to reflect the bond between Barack and Michelle, a connection that showcased both our individuality and our deep affection for each other. It was also an expression of genuine Black love.
