As a long-time Marvel fan and avid attendee of Comic-Con events, I was absolutely thrilled to witness Marvel Studios’ grand return to Hall H during San Diego Comic-Con 2024. The anticipation in the air was palpable, with fans eagerly awaiting any new information about upcoming Marvel projects. And boy, did Marvel deliver!
At Saturday evening during San Diego Comic-Con 2024, Marvel Studios kept fans excited with another visit to Hall H as the event was wrapping up. While Robert Downey Jr.’s surprising comeback as Doctor Doom took center stage in media coverage and discussions, fans were also given a sneak peek of another significant antagonist. Following the announcement that the title of the upcoming “Fantastic Four” film has been changed, Marvel unveiled a brief look at the cosmic villain, Galactus. This reveal is definitely worth sharing.
It’s amazing to ponder the fact that Galactus will make another appearance in a Marvel movie after a long absence, which was last seen in “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer” back in 2007. Fans may be thrilled to discover that he no longer looks like the cosmic cloud depicted in that film. Instead, Galactus boasts an entirely new appearance, as showcased during the Hall H panel – a topic worth exploring.
Galactus More Closely Resembles His Comic Book Self, With A Twist
The Fantastic Four: First Steps has soared higher in my anticipation for upcoming Marvel films, and Galactus is a major reason why. Although his portrayal was brief in the presentation, it’s noteworthy that his cameo was included as part of an animatic reel designed to showcase the film’s intended visual and tonal style. However, all we got to see was Galactus peering into a skyscraper window from within the room’s perspective.
In simpler terms, we didn’t see a clear image of the villain’s entire body in the film. However, his appearance and feel had similarities to the deceased Celestial Tiamut from last year’s Eternals. But, this new Fantastic Four story doesn’t follow the main Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline (Earth-616). Instead, it is set in an alternate universe where technology has a vintage, futuristic style. For instance, their spaceship wasn’t like any known spacecrafts to the public.
This Is The Galactus Fans Have Wanted, Though I Do Still Have Some Concerns
It’s exciting to see Galactus returning to his typical form instead of being depicted as a cloud. However, as a Marvel fan, I have some reservations. Frankly, the colossal figure has always come across as just a large man donning a costume. To be genuinely intimidating, the magnitude of this character needs to be immense, which wasn’t conveyed in the initial glimpse we got.
Kevin Feige Told Us The ‘Focus’ Of The Fantastic Four Movie, And The Moment He Understood ‘90 Percent Of The Work Was Done’
Kevin Feige is excited for this movie.
In my viewpoint, a Galactus with a height reaching a skyscraper is insufficient for the role of a true Devourer of Worlds. He needs to be colossal, beyond comprehension in size. When I gaze far into the horizon, there should only be a tiny fragment of his body visible. The Marvel antagonist should inspire awe with his ability to consume entire planets; unfortunately, the portrayal I encountered fell short of this grandiosity. Imagine instead the breathtaking spectacle of the drone show at SDCC’s unveiling.
As a dedicated gamer, I’m thrilled to share some good news with fellow fans of “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” game. The initial design for Galactus, portrayed by Ralph Ineson, might not be the final one we’ll see. The CGI is still under development, and there’s ample opportunity to expand Galactus’ size and power in line with Marvel’s grand vision. Though I believe this improvement is crucial, I can’t help but remain eagerly anticipating the awe-inspiring appearance of the MCU’s take on this legendary villain.
As someone who grew up reading comic books and has been a fan of the Fantastic Four since I was a kid, I couldn’t be more excited that “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” is finally coming to theaters on July 25, 2025. But for those of us who can’t wait that long, we have the chance to revisit one of the most iconic moments in the team’s cinematic history – Galactus’ first appearance in “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.”
