- Developer Netmarble have unveiled a trailer for the new Game of Thrones adaptation
- Game of Thrones: Kingsroad offers third-person action in a departure from previous releases
- You’ll still recognise familiar names, places and faces from the series however
As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for epic tales of fantasy and intrigue, I must admit that the latest offering from Netmarble, Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, has piqued my interest. Having grown up with the original novels by George R.R. Martin and being an avid viewer of the HBO adaptation, this third-person action game seems like a natural evolution for Westeros in the gaming world.
Initially written by George R.R. Martin in the mid-90s and later adapted successfully by HBO, the captivating series “Game of Thrones” temporarily faded from popular discussion following its controversial finale. However, this hasn’t deterred numerous video game developers from attempting to recreate the world of Westeros.
At the G-Star 2024 expo in South Korea, Netmarble, creators of Seven Knights, unveiled a trailer for Game of Thrones: Kingsroad. This new game features third-person action scenes that take place on the other side of the Wall, which separates the safer southern lands from the much more perilous northern territories.
In a new, realistic battle-oriented scene, characters like Kit Harrington’s Jon Snow are noticeable, appearing towards the end. Details are still scarce, but it has been confirmed that Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is an upcoming mobile game, available on both iOS and Android devices at some point in the future.
That’s a big bloody wall
As a devoted fan myself, I can understand why some book enthusiasts might lament another adaptation of Game of Thrones, especially if it heavily leans on the television series. Yet, it’s hard to deny that this is the most familiar representation of George R.R. Martin’s works, so it comes as no surprise that Netmarble has adorned Kingsroad with its distinctive style and unforgettable characters.
Regarding its outcome: If you aren’t keen on tactical or role-playing games that involve strategy or character collection, then this adaptation of Westeros might be the one you’ve longed for. However, we’ll have to observe whether it lives up to expectations when it gets released.
For now, feel free to visit the official Game of Thrones: Kingsroad site for updates on any new developments, or stop by here on PG for frequent updates on this and other popular titles.
