As a seasoned movie reviewer with a penchant for HBO’s epic fantasies, I find myself reminiscing about the days when Westeros ruled our screens and Jon Snow graced them with his brooding presence. Now, here we stand, on the precipice of another tale from that fabled realm, House of the Dragon, but alas, our dear Kit Harington is a no-show.
It’s common for actors to struggle with watching their own movies and shows, yet Kit Harington, renowned for his role as Jon Snow in Game of Thrones, has expressed that he can’t bear to watch even the spin-off series, House of the Dragon. Harington’s character, Jon Snow, was initially considered an outsider in the Stark family but eventually became a crucial figure in the epic struggle for the Iron Throne over eight seasons. Now, Harington reminisces fondly about his time on Game of Thrones, but has made it clear that he won’t be tuning in to any episodes of House of the Dragon.
At the red carpet premiere of “Industry” season 3, I, Kit Harington, had a chat with Associated Press. In our talk, they asked me about my past on “Game of Thrones” and my thoughts on the sensational spin-off, “House of the Dragon.” Shockingly, I admitted that I haven’t watched a single episode of it yet, and have no plans to do so. I confessed that it feels odd to witness another series set in the world where I spent eight seasons. In my own words:
“I find myself unable to tune in. Frankly, I’ve been immersed in it for too long. My heart is with them as I hear it’s thriving, but I doubt I’ll revisit that series anytime soon. Perhaps not until a few years have passed.”
Kit Harington Isn’t Sure He’s Over Game of Thrones
Kit Harington’s long-standing role as Jon Snow in ‘Game of Thrones’ has left a lasting impact on him, and he’s unsure if he can completely break free from this connection.
“I’ve had some trouble letting go, as it seems that old experience hasn’t quite vanished from my sight yet, despite the passage of years. It appears that it may take even more time for me to fully move on.”
Initially, Kit Harrington was intended to reappear in a new “Game of Thrones” spin-off series. However, this year, the actor confirmed that HBO has officially scrapped the project. Originally planned after the 2019 finale of “Game of Thrones,” the Jon Snow spin-off would have unfolded post-series events, with Jon Snow returning to the Night’s Watch following Daenerys Targaryen’s (Emilia Clarke) demise. While Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright) sits on the Iron Throne, Jon Snow’s spin-off would have chronicled his adventures beyond The Wall as the Free Folk returned to their homeland. Unfortunately, the show was called off because the creative team struggled to find a suitable storyline. Harrington stated that the decision was due to an inability to settle on the right tale to tell.
“Our team is continually refining Game of Thrones scripts. This past spring, we gave the go-ahead for Dunk and Egg. As of now, I can’t confirm any other projects in this universe have been given the green light, but we’re consistently brainstorming new scripts and concepts.”
