Game Room update adds Backgammon to the Vision Pro app

  • Game Room’s latest update adds the classic past-time Backgammon
  • The history of the game goes back hundreds if not thousands of years
  • And it’s just the latest of a number of classic board games to come to the Vision Pro app

As a seasoned gamer who has witnessed the evolution of gaming from arcade halls to virtual reality, I must admit that while I was initially skeptical about the Apple Vision Pro, Game Room has managed to pique my interest. The latest addition of Backgammon, a game steeped in history and tradition, is a welcome surprise, even if my knowledge of the game remains limited to its name and basic rules.

After several months following the debut of the Apple Vision Pro, the device hasn’t revolutionized the world yet, but it continues to impress with its impressive lineup of games. A prime example is Game Room, where you can enjoy traditional board games that appear seamlessly integrated into your actual surroundings.

As a gamer myself, I can tell you that it may not be the gritty cyberpunk world I crave, but with games ranging from the classic Solitaire to the fast-paced Flip It, there’s no shortage of options. Plus, the recent update has brought the age-old strategy game Backgammon into the mix! No more rummaging through a messy cupboard for my favorite titles. Now I can access them all with ease.

Backgammon, similar to numerous games we see today, has roots that stretch back to ancient civilizations. However, the contemporary form, widely enjoyed by many, revolves around shifting game pieces from a board. It’s a unique blend of luck and strategic skills. And yes, it might be evident that I don’t have extensive experience with Backgammon.

Gammon and eggs, please

The primary attraction of Game Room isn’t its novelty, as you can easily purchase board games and enjoy them with your friends without needing to set up a Vision Pro. Despite the Vision Pro being a remarkable device, I haven’t found any features that make it seem like groundbreaking technology.

Still, even if you aren’t privy to top-shelf stuff like the Vision Pro there’s plenty of great stuff out there to take up your time. Need somewhere to start? Why not dig into some of the entries in our latest regular feature, with the top five new games to try this week?
