Gandhari: How did Taapsee Pannu come on board for action film? Kanika Dhillon reveals

Following their fruitful ventures with the Haseen Dillruba series, Taapsee Pannu and Kanika Dhillon are gearing up to join forces for an upcoming action movie titled Gandhari. Though a release date has yet to be determined, Dhillon, the screenwriter-producer of the film, recently shared insights about the forthcoming revenge flick and disclosed how the actress was recruited for it.

In conversation with Hindustan Times, Kanika Dhillon disclosed that the movie revolves around the dynamic between a mother and her child.

Pondering over the concept of Gandhari, she expressed, “This involves a unique kind of fear or fierce determination as a parent. How far would a mother go to shield her child?,” highlighting that this was a new and intriguing ‘genre’ for her, referring to action.

Additionally, she discussed teaming up with Taapsee Pannu and highlighted the fact that the actress was equally interested in starring in a movie of the same type.

She mentioned that she found herself perfectly prepared to star in an action movie, and it turned out conveniently timed. Dhillon commented that they were eager to explore a deeply emotional and compelling narrative similar to Gandhari, as both artists and individuals.

Furthermore, Kanika Dhillon expressed opinions that contrasted with the widely held belief about audiences being unwilling to embrace woman-centric action or mass movies. She argued that the responsibility doesn’t lie with the audience to either accept or reject, but rather on the creators to present the narrative in an effective manner.

In her opinion, the struggle is primarily within the creator themselves, rather than being influenced by audience tastes. However, she emphasized that a compelling narrative will always resonate with people and ultimately find its audience.

Although many movies have portrayed mothers battling for their kids prior to Gandhari, Kanika distinguishes herself from such comparisons. She emphasized that each mother-child bond is distinctive, and the emotions in their narrative are universally relatable yet uniquely individual.

She emphasized that the connection between each mother and their child is irreplaceable and distinct, as no other mother-child relationship can mirror it exactly.

Under the direction of Devashish Makhija, the movie titled Gandhari includes Ishwak Singh in a significant part. Scheduled for release on Netflix later in the year.
