Approximately 44% of respondents chose this Netflix film as their top pick. In case you need a reminder, the 2022 movie portrays the life and hardships of Gangubai, a young courtesan who rises to power in Mumbai’s Kamathipura district and advocates for her own rights and those of others.
In the poll, the runner-up position was claimed by the movie titled “Dear Zindagi”. This slice-of-life film garnered 25% of the votes. The movie is a coming-of-age comedy drama written and directed by Gauri Shinde, with Shah Rukh Khan playing the main role. The story revolves around a cinematographer who feels drained by life, prompting her to journey to Goa in search of answers and fresh perspectives. There, she encounters a carefree psychologist who aids her in viewing life through his unique lens.
In third place, we have a tie between Alia Bhatt’s movies “Udta Punjab” and “Darlings”. Approximately 13% of voters favor each film. “Udta Punjab” is a compelling crime thriller that sheds light on the drug issue in the Indian state of Punjab. Released in 2016, this dramatic film was directed by Abhishek Chaubey and boasts an impressive cast including Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Diljit Dosanjh.
Conversely, “Darlings” revolves around a woman trapped in a harmful marriage with an abusive spouse. This darkly comedic film is the debut production of Alia, directed by Jasmeet K. Reen. Alongside Alia, Shefali Shah, Vijay Varma, and Roshan Mathew lend their talents to significant roles within the movie.
