Garena Free City opens pre-registration in SEA, Middle East and Africa

  • Garena Free City is now available for pre-registration on iOS and Android
  • Currently, you can sign up in the Middle-east, Southeast Asia and Africa
  • But can this GTA-like stand out?

As an avid gamer, I can’t contain my excitement! The much-anticipated Garena Free City, the latest addition to the developer’s impressive collection, is now open for pre-registration in Southeast Asia, Middle East, and Africa regions. If you’ve been yearning for a specific sixth installment in a renowned series, this could very well be the game to keep you engaged until that day comes.

Let me be straight about this. We’re talking about Grand Theft Auto, or Garena’s interpretation of it, which is scheduled to release on June 30th. Whether you find that exciting or disappointing really depends on your personal feelings. At first sight, it seems like just another mobile version of GTA, but upon closer inspection, there might be some promising aspects to it.

This game seems to offer a versatile character customization feature, similar to The Sims, where you can adjust individual traits. Unlike games such as GTA, it doesn’t strive for realism but instead features an array of unique elements, ranging from colossal robots to summonable power-ups that include deployable shields.

Bold & Brash

However, it’s clear that certain aspects aim to replicate the charm of a game similar to Grand Theft Auto Online. Unfortunately, this repetition is regrettable given the intriguing and unique features presented.

It seems that Garena might not have picked the optimal moment to introduce Free City to the public. Although I don’t believe there exists a ‘killer app’ in a single genre on mobile, Ananta is an upcoming release emphasizing a vast open world and exciting side quests, much like Free City, but with more depth.

As a fan, I can’t help but feel that Free City is breaking new ground in its unique approach. Yet, I acknowledge that some might be deterred by its anime-inspired style. On the other hand, my only criticism thus far is that it seems reluctant to fully embrace its distinctiveness.

If you’re keen on staying one step ahead when it comes to new game releases, why not explore Catherine’s recurring segment, titled exactly that, to discover the latest games currently available for your enjoyment?
