Gayle King, Katy Perry and Lauren Sanchez Will Fly to Space on One of Jeff Bezos’ Rockets

Jeff Bezos’s rocket firm, Blue Origin, has unveiled the team who will be embarking on their future space voyage, and this group boasts several well-known figures.

According to the space company, Lauren Sanchez, who is engaged to Bezos, played a crucial role in unifying the team. Besides Sanchez, CBS Morning co-host Gayle King and popular singer Katy Perry are also part of the crew for this mission.

[Sanchez] has been chosen to head an expeditionary group, tasked with redefining the team’s understanding of our planet, encouraging them to express their personal narratives, and leaving behind a legacy that will spark the imagination and motivation of future explorers,” reads a statement from Blue Origin.

I’m thrilled to share that the exciting news about the mission was revealed on CBS Mornings last Thursday! Blue Origin, as we all know, is pioneering a historic first – an all-female crew for one of their flights, marking the 11th manned mission they’ve undertaken. What makes this even more remarkable is that I, among many others, will be joining the ranks of those who have ventured into space, making me the second network morning show host to do so on one of these incredible rockets!

The exact date for the mission hasn’t been announced yet, but the company has indicated that it will happen sometime during the spring season.

For years, Bezos’ company has relied on prominent figures often referred to as “astronauts” to boost public understanding of its activities. In 2021, Bezos himself embarked on the inaugural manned flight, while Michael Strahan, co-host of Good Morning America, took part in a crew later that year. Their experiences were shared on the show.

As a gamer, I can’t help but feel excited about the stellar team that’s been assembled for this upcoming adventure. It includes King, Sanchez, and Perry – quite possibly the most impressive crew we’ve seen so far. Joining them will be Aisha Bowe, a former NASA rocket scientist, Amanda Nguyen, a research whiz, and Kerianne Flynn, a talented film producer. This group promises to bring a unique blend of skills and experiences that I can’t wait to see in action!

Blue Origin’s New Shepard spacecraft carries travelers beyond the Kármán line, which lies approximately 62 miles up from Earth. This boundary is often recognized as where Earth’s atmosphere transitions into space.
