As a huge fan of The Boys universe, I’m thrilled to hear that filming has finally begun for Season 2 of Gen V. The first season left us with a cliffhanger and I’ve been eagerly waiting to see how the story unfolds next. It’s bittersweet knowing that The Boys itself will come to an end after Season 5, but I’m glad that the universe will continue to expand through shows like Gen V.
The actors from “Gen V” are back in action as production starts for Season 2 of Amazon Prime Video’s hit spin-off series, “The Boys.” The first season, which premiered on Prime Video in 2023, received rave reviews from both critics and viewers. Initially set to begin filming earlier this year, the production was delayed due to the unfortunate death of lead actor Chance Perdomo. It seems that filming has now commenced once again for “Gen V.”
As a long-time fan of “The Boys” and eagerly anticipating the release of “Gen V,” I was thrilled to see the official news about its production restart shared on social media. The caption “Class is in session” added an exciting touch, and the photo of Jaz Sinclair wearing a Godolkin University hoodie only fueled my enthusiasm further.
At Godolkin University, a satirical take on Professor Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters from the X-Men franchise, Gen V focuses on a team of aspiring superheroes in their training. They stumble upon a hidden lab beneath the college where supers are being subjected to experiments. In the initial season of this spin-off, the storyline remained largely separate from the primary series, with only occasional cameos from some prominent characters from The Boys. However, as The Boys is planning to conclude after its fifth season, Gen V’s characters have been integrated into the current season of The Boys in Season 4, forging connections between the two shows.
The Boys Will End With Season 5, But More Spin-Offs Are Coming
There’s no hiding it: “The Boys” is set to conclude its tale of quirky, violent superheroes following five seasons. Previously, showrunner Eric Kripke had teased that the show might last as long as his previous successful series, “Supernatural” (which continued for an impressive 15 seasons). Yet, only a few days after this light-hearted comment, the news broke that “The Boys” is indeed wrapping up. One of the show’s leading actors, Antony Starr (Homelander), isn’t quite prepared to say goodbye to the cherished superhero series before filming on the fifth season begins. Starr expressed:
I understand that you’ve shared a quote expressing reluctance towards reaching a certain point due to the joy of the journey and the attachment to a particular aspect of your life. For me, I relate to this sentiment deeply as I’ve found myself at various crossroads in my life where I’ve had to make difficult decisions or face inevitable changes.
Although “The Boys” is set to conclude after five seasons, the show’s creator, Kripke, harbors grand designs for the series’ wider universe. There’s a possibility that “Gen V” might continue for another run or two, providing more depth to Marie Moreau’s (Sinclair) academic pursuits at Godolkin University. Kripke expressed:
As an avid fan, I regret to share that the tale of “The Boys” won’t go on beyond season 5. Fingers crossed, there’s Gen V to keep us hooked, and possibly a few other projects underway that could carry the narrative forward. However, the epic saga of “The Boys” reaches its conclusion in season 5.
One variation could be: A anticipated spin-off in the works is named “The Boys: Mexico”. The production of this proposed spin-off has experienced some setbacks, but creator Kripke reassures fans that progress is being made. Currently, no other spin-offs have been disclosed.
Each week, you can find new episodes from The Boys’ fourth season on Amazon Prime Video. Additionally, Amazon Prime Video hosts the streaming of Gen V for your viewing pleasure.
