Geoffrey Rush’s Hilarious Idea for a Comeback in Pirates of the Caribbean 6!

The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is set to return to our screens, which might seem obvious to some. There’s speculation about who will lead the cast this time around, whether it’s Johnny Depp, Margot Robbie, or a newcomer entirely. However, one original star has expressed interest in making a guest appearance and even proposed an amusing idea on how it could transpire. During an exclusive interview with George Edelman from MovieWeb while promoting his latest film, The Rule of Jenny Pen, the iconic actor hinted at a potential swashbuckling comeback as the roguish pirate Barbossa. He suggested:

I enjoyed myself immensely during that prolonged period. It was likely around 12 to 15 years in total, from start to finish. However, following the conclusion, I’ve had two near-death experiences and wasn’t keen on being dug up again. I felt it would have been inappropriate to have taken his life for my own child, yes, and I thought, It’s too sentimental. Then I decided… if Johnny Depp were to play the role…

In our discussions, I’ve suggested to Jerry [Bruckheimer] that Captain Barbossa could return in a ghostly form, similar to Hamlet’s father. I mentioned that there are both dramatic and comedic opportunities in this scenario. My idea is for him to appear for just a few scenes, primarily to annoy Jack. This would serve as a sort of final touch or climax for the overall storyline because, remember, he once worked for the king, amassed great wealth, broke the curse, found the Aztec gold – so it would be quite something if he could return just to taunt Jack and assert his narcissistic power over him.
