George R.R. Martin Is The Latest Writer To Jump On The Save A Series Train, And I'm Right There With Him

As a long-time fan of historical dramas and fantasy series, I must say that the cancellation of “My Lady Jane” was a hard pill to swallow this year. However, hearing George R.R. Martin‘s glowing endorsement of the show has given me a newfound sense of hope!

2024 saw many challenging cancellations, but none more difficult than the termination of “My Lady Jane” following its initial season premiere in June on the TV schedule. Interestingly, George R.R. Martin, a fan of the Amazon Prime series himself, has joined efforts to save it.

It’s quite common for artists, writers, performers, and others to passionately endorse shows they deeply appreciate, even trying to support their continued existence. But having someone as influential as George R.R. Martin expressing his fondness is truly significant. In a recent blog post, he publicly declared his appreciation for what many consider one of Amazon Prime’s top-tier series.

Regarding television series, my favorite subject matter has always been alternate history, particularly the intriguing tale of Jane Grey, England’s nine-day queen. As such, I found myself thoroughly captivated by MY LADY JANE, a creative and imaginative historical fantasy available on Amazon Prime, set in an England teeming with witches and shape-shifters, where Jane reigns for longer than her namesake. Meredith Glynn is one of the showrunners, having previously collaborated with me on a shelved Game of Thrones spinoff by HBO. Given her skillset, it was no surprise to me that MY LADY JANE proved to be an enjoyable watch. The series was reminiscent of THE GREAT, another show I held in high regard. Unfortunately, both shows seem to have met their end, as Amazon did not renew MY LADY JANE for a second season, and THE GREAT has also been discontinued.

Absolutely, I concur entirely! The series is incredibly imaginative and entertaining, and it truly should have received far more appreciation and additional episodes than it did.

As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but draw a parallel to my own experiences when the creator of “The Boys,” Eric Kripke, shared his affection for “My Lady Jane” and his professional bond with its showrunner Meredith Glynn. Similarly, Martin finds himself in a similar situation, acknowledging his personal connection with Glynn and their past collaborations. With my fondness for this storyline reminiscent of “The Great,” it’s safe to say that I would be absolutely smitten with the romantic fantasy at hand.

Apart from expressing his fondness for the show, Martin also shared a link to an article about the campaign that fans of “My Lady Jane” are spearheading. This article can be found on Movie Web.

Despite the series only having nine days or eight episodes, it has garnered a dedicated fanbase who are advocating for additional seasons. Here’s their petition if you want to lend your support: [link to petition]. I hope they succeed in convincing Amazon to produce more content, as Jane truly deserved a longer run. Wishing them the best of luck!

Currently, the petition Martin mentioned on change.org has amassed approximately 69,700 signatures, aiming for 75,000. This petition was initiated on July 15, a month prior to the show’s official cancellation, and it carries the title “Petitioning Amazon Prime to Renew My Lady Jane for a Second Season.” The goal is to urge Amazon Prime to reconsider and renew the series for another season.

Since its cancellation, the petition has been widely shared on social platforms, garnering steady backing for a full month now, as people have learned that the series won’t be returning.

Of course, being a devoted viewer, I’m overjoyed to witness Martin endorsing the show, as fans persist in their support movement.

As a dedicated fan, I find the endorsement of “My Lady Jane” similar to Stephen King expressing his ardor for canceled series such as “Evil,” “Y: The Last Man,” and most notably, “Manifest.” He even rallied support to resurrect “Manifest,” which miraculously returned for one more season on Netflix from 2022 to 2023. In essence, what I’m conveying is that influential figures can amplify a show’s reach, and in certain instances, their backing can even prevent a series from being taken off the air.

Perhaps this article penned by the author of ‘Game of Thrones’ could potentially aid in the revival of ‘My Lady Jane’. Being a devoted fan of his works, I find solace in his positive remarks about it. His words offer a sliver of optimism that we might get another chance to witness Jane on screen. Since her tale altered in the series, why can’t we rewrite the fate of ‘My Lady Jane’ in reality?

To get a feel for the excitement surrounding Martin’s show, and perhaps help keep it going, consider streaming “My Lady Jane” using your Amazon Prime membership.
