George R.R. Martin Says Seven Game of Thrones Spin-Offs Are In Development

As a seasoned gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the rich and complex world of Westeros, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and trepidation at the news of seven new Game of Thrones spin-offs in development.

The popular “Game of Thrones” series is growing extensively as its creator, George R.R. Martin, known for his fan engagement, has been discussing the numerous “Game of Thrones” offshoots that are being actively developed right now.

George R.R. Martin, as shared by @westerosorg on Twitter, discussed having seven potential Game of Thrones spin-offs at the Oxford Writers’ House. Out of these seven, four are planned to be animated and three live-action. At this point, the specifics of these projects remain unofficially disclosed; however, there have been some intriguing hints suggesting what might be underway.

As a fervent fan, I’m thrilled to share that four exciting stories are underway in development! One of them is “Ten Thousand Ships,” a tale that brings the Rhoynar to Dorne. Previously hinted at is a series revolving around Aegon the Conqueror, the first Targaryen king. Additionally, whispers have circulated about a narrative set in the Golden Empire of Yi Ti and another focusing on Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint) and his epic voyages. It seemed earlier that some of these many anticipated projects might be put on hold, but this recent update indicates that the triumph of House of the Dragon has inspired a renewed interest in bringing some of these back to life.

Game of Thrones’ Current Spin-Offs

Martin deliberately left House of the Dragon off his list, given that it boasts two seasons and labeling it as ‘in development’ might not entirely fit. While Martin has commended the show’s second season, particularly its epic dragon battle, he has also openly expressed his reservations about certain adaptational alterations.

As an avid fan, I can’t say for certain if George R.R. Martin has included “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” in his upcoming spin-offs, but it’s set to premiere next year and is now in production. This series focuses on Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey), a towering hedge knight, who takes on Aegon Targaryen (Dexter Sol Ansell), a young man somewhere around sixteenth in line for the throne, as his squire. Viewers will be treated to a fresh perspective of Westeros as they follow their travels. If “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” does indeed make it into Martin’s spin-off list, that leaves us still wondering about the two other live-action spin-offs yet to be revealed.

It’s possible that HBO might revive some shows that were previously canceled. For instance, a series titled “Bloodmoon,” which takes place during the first Long Night, was once rejected. Although it’s doubtful that any footage from “Bloodmoon” will be used, its central concept is intriguing enough to hold some promise. Furthermore, there’s a small chance that the Jon Snow project featuring Kit Harington could regain traction. Initially intended as a sequel to “Game of Thrones,” this series has been the subject of speculation for years. However, the latest news indicated it wouldn’t proceed. Yet, with numerous projects under discussion, it’s challenging to dismiss any possibilities outright.
