Currently, things are more bustling than usual for this individual, and one of his much-awaited films is the impending live-action rendition of
. There are some supporters of the animated series who have voiced doubts as to why a live-action adaptation is necessary, but Butler is extremely eager for viewers to witness the final product. In a recent conversation, he expressed great enthusiasm about the “extraordinary” movie, hinting that fans might be more satisfied with the film than they anticipate.
Initially debuting in 2010, “How to Train Your Dragon” by Dreamworks Animation quickly captivated viewers worldwide, amassing a gross of $494 million globally. Since then, it has spawned two follow-up films and three television series, solidifying its status as an iconic animated franchise. Anticipation builds as live-action adaptations of popular animated movies become increasingly common. The upcoming live-action adaptation is set to hit theaters in June, with Sam Worthington once again taking on the role of Stoick the Vast.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Butler expressed his thoughts regarding the upcoming film. As for the actor, one notable distinction he found between the animated and real-life adaptations was the ability to truly inhabit the surroundings depicted on the screen. In his own words: “[I could] actually live in the environment you see on screen.
I’ve often pondered about starring in those movies, especially since I’ve enjoyed watching their animated versions. It’s fascinating to think about what it would be like to truly inhabit such a massive size and role, as an actor, we get to explore different worlds, but with animation, that’s not quite the same. However, now they’ve made the live-action version, and I find myself immersed in those arenas, even in that Viking village. The movie is phenomenal, and I’ve seen it without special effects. It’s mind-blowing! But what I’m most excited about is sharing this experience with the world soon.
‘How To Train Your Dragon’ Could Start a New Franchise
As a die-hard cinema enthusiast, I can’t help but feel a thrill when I see Disney extending their live-action adaptation of “The Lion King” with the upcoming “Mufasa: The Lion King” in 2024, following the success of “How to Train Your Dragon”. If this summer blockbuster lives up to expectations for Universal Pictures, it’s clear that we can anticipate more films from this franchise. However, the intriguing part is figuring out how they could continue this series without merely rehashing what has already been presented.
Translating one film from a series into a remake might be intriguing, but turning an entire trilogy into a carbon copy would likely become repetitive quite quickly. A trend that has emerged over the past seven to eight years in the switch of animation to live-action films, with movies like The Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin, is that follow-up films, which were initially planned, don’t seem to be materializing.
Disney has introduced sequels, spinoffs, and a prequel for the original “Aladdin,” featuring “Beauty and the Beast” in the past, with Luke Evans and Josh Gad reprising their roles as Gaston and LeFou. However, those projects are either on an indefinite pause or have been completely scrapped. This leads one to question if live-action remakes still hold any value. The box office numbers suggest they do, and as long as that trend persists, there will be numerous films coming this year like “How to Train Your Dragon,” “Snow White,” and “Lilo & Stitch.
