As a die-hard fan of Gerard Butler’s action-packed performances, particularly his iconic role as Mike Banning in the Has Fallen series, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and apprehension about the upcoming spinoff titled Paris Has Fallen. On one hand, the thought of a new action hero rising to protect a city in turmoil is thrilling. On the other, it’s hard not to miss the gruff charm and unparalleled skill of Butler’s Banning.
One of Gerard Butler’s renowned action series, the “Has Fallen” franchise, is set to make an unexpected transition to television screen with a spinoff titled “Paris Has Fallen”. This series, developed by French platform Canal+, introduces a new character who finds himself in a familiar predicament – battling terrorists while safeguarding a prominent political figure. Expect plenty of gunfire, explosions, and deceit.
A new poster for the movie “War of the Worlds,” produced by Urban Myth Films under Studiocanal, along with Millennium and Butler’s G-Base, has been revealed. This poster presents Tewfik Jallab, the main character seen in “Spiral” and “Dark Hearts,” as he protects a chaotic Paris. You can view it below:
In addition to Ritu Arya from “The Umbrella Academy,” who steps into the roles previously held by Babylon A.D. and Visions’ Mathieu Kassovitz due to creative disagreements, Paris Has Fallen also features her. This film also includes a French security agent played by Jallab. It has been widely speculated that Gerard Butler would appear as Mike Banning in the spinoff series, but since the production underwent significant changes, it remains unclear if this is still accurate.
You can check out the official synopsis for Paris Has Fallen below.
“Zara Khan, an audacious MI5 agent, joins forces with the French security operative Vincent Dubois to investigate a string of relentless assaults in Paris. As they delve deeper, it becomes apparent that the situation is more intricate than initially thought, revealing layers of political and ethical corruption. The film ‘Paris Has Fallen’ promises pulse-pounding action alongside an intense, suspenseful narrative, unfolding against a complex political backdrop.”
Fans React to Paris Has Fallen, Want More From Gerard Butler’s Action Hero
Despite the studio likely anticipating that another installment of the Has Fallen series would excite fans with more action, many have shared their puzzlement on social media about the decision to extend the franchise past Gerard Butler’s classic action character.
It’s great news that a fresh installment starring Butler is being worked on now. The movie, called Night Has Fallen, promises to reintroduce him as Secret Service Agent Mike Banning for another high-octane escapade. While specifics about the plot are being kept secret, it’s been announced that director Ric Roman Waugh and screenwriter Robert Mark Kamen will be back on board along with Butler.
It seems we may have a wait ahead of us. Recently, Butler has shared an exciting concept for the upcoming sequel; however, he suggested that it might take some time before we find ourselves back in a cinema, enjoying Banning’s exploits as he battles villains and saves the planet.
“At present, I haven’t been focusing on the script, but we do have a thrilling concept in mind that requires further development. It’s been exciting delving into new projects recently. To put it simply, I aspire to embody more the action-oriented roles like Tom Hanks, leaving behind the intense physicality of Mike Banning, which involves multiple fight scenes in each film. Instead, I want to portray characters that are genuine and demand something extraordinary from themselves, as that’s what audiences seem to be drawn to at this time.”
Next week, I’m eagerly anticipating the arrival of the movie titled Paris Has Fallen, which is directed by both Oded Ruskin and Hans Herbots. This action-packed film features an impressive cast that includes Tewfik Jallab, Ritu Arya, Sean Harris, Emmanuelle Bercot, Ana Ularu, Camilla Rutherford, Jérémie Covillault, and Karl Collins. I can’t wait to see it!
