As a seasoned movie-goer with a penchant for action films and a soft spot for Gerard Butler’s raw talent, I must say that the arrival of Hunter Killer on Tubi is like finding a long-lost treasure! While I admit that this gem didn’t shine brightly during its initial release, it certainly deserves a second chance in the limelight.
2018’s action-thriller “title” has now become available on “platform”, offering a second opportunity for this previously overlooked film to gain viewers. Although it had a brief run on Netflix, nothing quite matches the appeal of free content without the need for a subscription, and this has been particularly attractive to fans of action movies. In this film, Denzel Washington (Butler) deviates from his typical land-based pursuits and delves into the intricate world of geopolitical espionage and submarine combat.
Hunter Killer
Upon its release, Hunter Killer drew a mix of opinions from critics, with Rotten Tomatoes rating it 38% approval. The film was criticized for its predictable and complex storyline. However, these criticisms didn’t resonate much with fans of the genre, as evidenced by an audience score of 67%. Despite positive responses from fans, the movie failed to generate significant revenue at the box office, earning only $31.7 million, which was below its budget of $40 million.
Starting this month, you can now watch “Hunter Killer” on Tubi, expanding the selection of free-streaming action films on the platform. It joins a roster of popular action blockbusters from notable action stars such as Jason Statham, Sylvester Stallone, and Steven Seagal. Therefore, action enthusiasts can now include “Hunter Killer” in their collection of action movies to experience adrenaline-pumping moments this December.
Gerard Butler Continues to Be at Home in the Action Genre
As a dedicated fan, I’ve witnessed Butler’s remarkable career unfold, playing characters who triumph in the face of extreme adversity and life-threatening scenarios. His films such as Olympus Has Fallen, Plane, and Greenland have undeniably secured his position amongst the action movie elite. Rest assured, there’s no sign of him slowing down anytime soon.
In this action-packed sequel, I find myself entangled in a web of illegality – “Den of Thieves 2: Pantera”. This film sees the return of Butler as the tenacious Detective Nick “Big Nick” O’Brien, who, after the events of the first movie, chooses to abandon his position at the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department to pursue the criminal he’s been chasing across Europe. The freshly unveiled trailer, viewable above, promises a barrage of intense gunfights and grueling takedowns for fans of the genre.
Moving forward, Butler’s schedule is packed with additional projects coming up soon. He will reappear as Mike Banning, the Secret Service agent, in the fourth film of the Has Fallen series titled Night Has Fallen. Additionally, he will take on the role of Stoick the Vast once more in the live-action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon. In the meantime, viewers can catch one of Butler’s gripping performances in the streaming service Tubi’s presentation of Hunter Killer, until his upcoming films are released.
