If you’re seeking a thrilling experience this coming February, Peacock is your go-to…and then some! The streaming platform is set to add an array of vampire-themed titles to its collection on the first day of the month. Among these, you’ll find the entire Blade and Twilight series, a timeless classic, as well as several undervalued treasures. All these titles will be available on Peacock starting February 1st.
Regardless of personal feelings towards them, it’s hard to ignore the fame and cultural influence that the “Twilight” series and its four follow-ups have enjoyed. Starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson and adapted from Stephenie Meyer’s bestselling books, these films have amassed a staggering $3 billion globally at box offices. The question of whether they are genuinely good movies remains a hot topic for both critics and audiences, a point that the lead actor, Pattinson, seems to grow weary of discussing. Interestingly enough, “Twilight” might not have existed without “Interview with the Vampire,” the 1994 film directed by Neil Jordan, which was scripted by Anne Rice, the original novel’s author. This movie marked one of the earliest portrayals of vampires as compassionate beings capable of love and desire. Characters like the sensitive Louis (Brad Pitt) and the enigmatic Lestat (Tom Cruise) paved the way for future romantic undead characters, such as those seen in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and eventually Edward Cullen.
Don’t be concerned if you’re not fond of sparkly vampires and romance. If you prefer something grittier, you might enjoy John Carpenter’s 1998 movie, “Vampires,” where James Woods plays a tough hunter battling an evil vampire seeking a relic that lets vampires roam during the day. Another option is Josh Hartnett’s “30 Days of Night,” which depicts a town under a month-long darkness, being besieged by a ruthless gang of vampires. In both films, the vampires are cold-blooded killers with no trace of compassion in their bodies.
Wesley Snipes’ Iconic Vampire Hunter, Blade, Is Coming Peacock
Discussing vampires who can walk in daylight, Peacock is now streaming the original Blade trilogy with Wesley Snipes. It’s an excellent opportunity to watch these films again, as Snipes recently reprised his iconic role in the box office sensation MCU film Deadpool & Wolverine last year. In this movie, Snipes’ portrayal of Daywalker teams up with Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine amidst multiverse chaos. Notably, Snipes humorously declares that there will only ever be one Blade, while also joking about the long-awaited Blade reboot featuring Mahershala Ali.
Apart from these new titles joining the platform, Peacock currently offers a variety of vampire movies to stream. For instance, there’s Werner Herzog’s 1979 interpretation of Nosferatu, featuring Klaus Kinski and Isabelle Adjani, as well as Let the Right One In from 2008, an underappreciated film about a boy bonding with a vampire child in a Stockholm suburb. Additionally, there’s a less-known but valuable 1974 adaptation of Dracula directed by Dan Curtis, starring Jack Palance as the main vampire character. Other titles include…
