Enthusiasts, especially those who cherish his roles within the Fast & Furious series, will have something to rejoice this February as a number of his Fast movies are set to debut on Peacock on February 15. Apart from the Statham-absent Fast Five, the lineup includes Fast & Furious 6 – where Deckard Shaw makes his initial appearance in the saga – Furious 7, and the spinoff Fast & Furious Presents Hobbs & Shaw, which unites Statham with Dwayne Johnson for their own narrative.
In Fast & Furious 6, Dom Toretto, played by Vin Diesel, and Brian O’Conner, portrayed by Paul Walker, along with their team, receive an offer from Luke Hobbs to clear their criminal records if they aid in taking down a ruthless mercenary organization led by Owen Shaw. The story later connects back to the events of 2006’s The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift through a post-credits scene featuring Jason Statham as Deckard Shaw, who is revealed as Owen’s older brother.
In “Furious 7”, Jason Statham truly became an integral part of the franchise, as his character Deckard Shaw sought revenge for his brother who was left in a coma following the events of the last film. Later, in “The Fate of the Furious” (which is not available on Peacock), Shaw was almost ready to join forces with Johnson’s Hobbs for their own spinoff movie, which was released two years later in 2019. Statham made a brief cameo during the mid-credits scene of “F9”, but returned in a more prominent role in “Fast X”. Both these movies are currently available on Peacock for streaming.
Jason Statham Will Return for More ‘Fast & Furious’ Action
Jason Statham is a popular choice among viewers seeking thrilling action films that don’t require heavy thinking. With the production of Fast & Furious 9 underway, Statham will reprise his role as Deckard Shaw along with an extensive cast for another dose of pulse-pounding action. However, it remains unclear if Statham will feature in Dwayne Johnson’s upcoming Hobbs spinoff, should it be produced and released.
In the meantime, Statham hasn’t been idle, waiting for the Fast & Furious series to maintain his visibility. Instead, he’s been busy working on various other films of his own. Last year, The Beekeeper offered a highly successful action movie in both cinemas and streaming platforms. This year, he’s teaming up with director David Ayer again for A Working Man, set to hit theaters in March. Whatever magic Statham is brewing, he hopes that his new film will keep his simmering pot bubbling.
At present, it’s evident that Statham’s fanbase is insatiable, with his older movies from the past two decades frequently showing up on streaming platforms. Whether it’s critically panned action films like The Mechanic or well-received action comedies like Spy, it’s difficult to conceive of a period when there isn’t a Statham film ready for his legion of fans to rediscover.
