Nicole Kidman’s sensual film, “Babygirl,” is set to return to cinemas, perfect for a Valentine’s Day watch. A24 teased its release on their Instagram with a brief clip of Kidman pouring and sipping milk, mirroring a memorable scene from the movie. Moreover, A24’s online shop provides five complimentary and printable Valentine’s Day cards showcasing Kidman’s character Romy alongside her intern/lover, Samuel (played by Harris Dickinson).
Babygirl
Produced and directed by Halina Reijn (known for Bodies Bodies Bodies), this captivating film first hit theaters on Christmas Day last year and was available for rental or purchase a month later on January 28, 2025. In the near future, it will be accessible on Max as A24 has secured a distribution deal with them.
Babygirl generated an impressive $59 million at the global box office, ranking it as the ninth highest-grossing film for A24, according to The Numbers.
The actress has previously been honored or nominated for several awards, among them being the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the Venice International Film Festival. Notably, when she received the Best Actress Award at the National Board of Review Awards, she carried a glass of milk onto the stage with her. In her acceptance speech, she dedicated the award to “all the little girls in the room,” before drinking it.
The movie traces the journey of Romy, both founder and CEO, who encounters a promising intern named Samuel and requests him as her mentee. A swift emotional bond develops between them, as Romy finds herself dissatisfied with her almost two-decade long marriage to Jacob, an acclaimed theater director, who remains oblivious to their marital problems. However, it’s worth noting that the original phrase “They quickly begin a passionate affair” may not be suitable for all audiences due to its suggestive nature. You could replace it with “A deep emotional connection forms between them,” if you prefer a more general description of their relationship.
A New Thriller Series and ‘Practical Magic’ Sequel are Next for Kidman
Delighted by the ongoing acclaim for “Babygirl,” I’ve got some exciting projects in store. One of them is a thrilling new series titled “Scarpetta,” which I’ll be starring in alongside the brilliant Jamie Lee Curtis. This show, adapted from Patricia Cornwell’s novels, follows my character, Kay Scarpetta, a skilled medical examiner investigating a murder. Meanwhile, Jamie will portray Dorothy, my sister, and we both are producing this gripping series. The show is set to stream on Prime Video, with two seasons and sixteen episodes already ordered. Though the debut date for season one remains undisclosed, it’s expected to air this year. As Kidman shared (via The Hollywood Reporter), “Scarpetta” promises to be a captivating journey, and I can hardly wait for you all to see it!
For almost two decades, I’ve been chasing the character of Scarpetta, from its initial conception as a feature film, and joining forces with the talented Jamie Lee Curtis, Prime Video, Jason Blum, and David Gordon Green on the Liz Sarnoff series adaptation of Patricia Cornwell’s gripping novels feels like destiny. I am thrilled to step into Kay Scarpetta’s shoes and express my gratitude to Patricia Cornwell for entrusting me with her creation.
In a continuation of the beloved movie “Practical Magic,” released in 1998, Nicole Kidman will reprise her role as Gillian Owens. Joining her is Sandra Bullock, who portrays her sister, Sally. Both characters hail from a generations-old lineage of witches. Susanne Bier (known for “In a Better World” and “Bird Box”) takes the helm as director, with Akiva Goldsman, one of the original writers, crafting the script for this sequel inspired by Alice Hoffman’s 2021 novel. The initial film was also adapted from a book by Hoffman. As of now, there is no set release date.
