It’s not surprising that Nintendo, famous for creating some of video game history’s most beloved games, has also produced some fantastic films and television shows. Lately, it showcased its talent for adaptation with “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” which left both movie buffs and gamers eagerly anticipating more from the Nintendo cinematic world.

At present, Nintendo is developing multiple upcoming movies, with two being sequels and one introducing a fresh live-action universe. If these films succeed, it’s possible that additional popular games may soon receive their own film adaptations as well.

‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2’

Previously mentioned is “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” which garnered significant popularity among video game enthusiasts as well as non-gamers. The narrative follows the escapades of plumber brothers Mario and Luigi who find themselves whisked away from Brooklyn to the Mushroom Kingdom and Dark Lands, respectively. In this unfamiliar world, they were swiftly recruited into a struggle between Princess Peach and the malevolent Koopa King, Bowser, who was resolute on marrying Peach despite her refusal. As the ominous threat of Bowser’s powerful Super Star loomed over the kingdom, Mario formed an alliance with Donkey Kong, Toad, and other Nintendo characters to thwart Bowser, vanquish his Koopa troops, and reunite with Luigi.

Exciting Super Mario Bros. 2 Updates

The latest film based on the iconic Super Mario Bros. video game franchise is not the sole representation; there have been multiple other movies, animated series, and television shows in the past as well.

Displays such as “The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!”, “The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3”, and the inaugural film based on a video game, “Super Mario Bros.: The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach!”. These productions gained either cult or mainstream following. However, “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” signifies a renewed fascination and recognition for the game itself.

It’s not surprising that, with a 95% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, The Super Mario Bros. Movie is set to have a sequel. Voice actors Chris Pratt (Mario) and Keegan-Michael Key (Toad) have shown excitement for the project, hinting that the sequel will delve into intriguing tidbits of video game history and Easter eggs. With over 200 games showcasing Mario and his companions, there are numerous paths for the sequel to take. ‘Detective Pikachu 2’

The beloved franchise, Pokémon, has captivated fans for generations, so it’s no wonder there was great anticipation when the first Detective Pikachu film was unveiled. With Justice Smith portraying ex-trainer Tim Goodman and Ryan Reynolds lending his voice to Pikachu, the movie followed their journey to discover what happened to Tim’s missing father, who met with a car accident. Along the way, they encountered a Pokémon fighting pit, peculiar purple gas, and peculiar behavior from numerous Pokémon. In the climax, the bonds between humans and Pokémon, as well as themes of family and friendship, were put to the ultimate test when Tim and Pikachu confronted an ominous new take on evolution.

Gotta Be the Very Best

It’s important to note that not every Pokemon fan adored Detective Pikachu. Some felt that its tone differed from the usual vibe in the games, and others believed it shifted too much attention away from the traditional gameplay.

Instead of focusing on the stars of the Pokémon themselves in the film, some people thought the first live-action Pokémon movie should revolve around a more popular game or feature a more well-known character like Ash. However, many consider Detective Pikachu to be an excellent family movie and at one point, it held the record for the highest-grossing video game movie ever.

It was uncertain for some time if a sequel would materialize at all. However, a recent data breach unveiled that filming has been ongoing since 2021, with Jordan Vogt-Roberts appointed as director. Reportedly named The Great Detective Pikachu, details about the movie are scarce, but fans have been brainstorming theories on its plot and suggesting locations they hope to see in the film. Given the insights gained from the first movie and the buzz surrounding this new project, it seems that The Great Detective Pikachu (or whatever its final title may be) holds great promise as one of the best video game adaptations yet.

‘The Legend of Zelda’

As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that the long-awaited game-to-movie adaptation, “The Legend of Zelda,” has officially been set in motion for 2023. This epic saga revolves around the valiant character, Link, who embarks on a quest to vanquish monsters, retrieve Triforce fragments, and rescue Princess Zelda. With an impressive collection of 29 games under its belt, there’s a wealth of possibilities for the movie to delve into various aspects of this universe, while also paving the way for additional cinematic adventures in the future.

Wes Ball, the director, harbors grand ambitions for the live-action adaptation, aiming to transport viewers directly into Hyrule, sharing the experience with Link. Drawing inspiration from the works of Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki, he considers the game series as a profound influence on his life. At present, details about the upcoming movie remain scarce, but it’s clear that Ball is brimming with excitement.

Past Fumbles, Future Goals

Back in 2015, there were rumors that Netflix was considering the production of a live-action series based on The Legend of Zelda. However, it’s said that the project was scrapped following a leak of information about it. In 2021, an adult anime version was proposed, but as of now, no progress has been made. Given the fans’ excitement for The Legend of Zelda, they should approach any future developments with some skepticism, given past unsuccessful attempts.

Simultaneously, it’s tough not to feel a surge of anticipation about the film’s prospects. Already, fans have begun brainstorming potential actors for various roles, such as Princess Zelda, the antagonist Ganondorf (also known as Ganon), and the lead character, Link. Here’s hoping the production progresses smoothly, paving the way for more Zelda movie adaptations—and potentially more Nintendo film adaptations in the future.
