The writers are heading back to a popular hospital that’s known for celebrities, as it turns out. It seems that the revival of the TV show “Scrubs”, a beloved comedy series from the 2000s about a hospital, is now in its development phase, as per Bill Lawrence, its creator and writer.
On the red carpet at the Writers Guild Awards, Lawrence shared an intriguing piece of news regarding the progress of the writers’ room for the forthcoming revival of a cherished sitcom.
Currently, we’re bringing our writers together in a unique collaboration. It’s truly remarkable to see such talented writers from around the globe working on this project, and what’s even more special is that they’ve all formed strong friendships, including with me. This blend of seasoned professionals and fresh talents is just getting started. Expect to see the results of our efforts very soon!
Initially airing on NBC for its first seven seasons between 2001 and 2008, and then moving to ABC from 2009-2010, the popular show “Scrubs” had a remarkable run. The show humorously depicted the daily lives of interns, doctors, nurses, and even a witty janitor in a hospital setting. Much like how the co-creator of “Ted Lasso” excels at creating life-like comedies, “Scrubs” was no exception. Given that the cast still maintains close ties with each other and the writers, a reboot has been under consideration for quite some time, although the process has been slow. The original cast of “Scrubs” consisted of Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, Judy Reyes, Ken Jenkins, John C. McGinley, and Neil Flynn, and while the exact names haven’t been revealed yet, fans can expect that the main stars will return.
‘Scrubs’ Is a Major Priority for Bill Lawrence & Co.
Since launching his hospital sitcom, Lawrence has enjoyed an abundance of success, with roles as co-creator in shows like “Cougar Town,” “Bad Monkey,” “Shrinking,” and “Ted Lasso.” Although it appears that “Ted Lasso” could be greenlit for its fourth season, Lawrence is mainly focused on discussing the thrilling medical escapades of the “Scrubs” crew. However, we can’t help but wonder if the reboot project won’t get shelved instead?
In a conversation with Variety, Lawrence emphasized that the Scrubs reboot would present an advantageous scenario because all the necessary individuals are eager to return to Sacred Heart, expressing their enthusiasm for this retro undertaking.
After giving it considerable thought, I believe the primary motivation is self-serving. We’re all friends and we cherish our time together. Working on this show has been a career highlight for many – writers, actors, crew members alike. So, when considering the opportunity to do it again, we asked ourselves: why not? It’s part of the joy and excitement that comes with revisiting something special.
The project appears to shape up as an exceptional production that reunites long-time colleagues to pay tribute to their previous endeavors with a contemporary twist, which is exactly what spectators hope for in a revival.
