‘Ghost of Yōtei’ Sets PlaySation 5 Release Date

As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to share that the long-awaited follow-up to the captivating “Ghost of Tsushima,” titled “Ghost of Yōtei,” has finally set its sights on our PlayStation 5 consoles with an official release date!

Last year, the sequel to 2020’s prequel, titled Ghost of Yōtei, was officially announced. The initial game centered around the last samurai Jin Sakai, who fought for Japan’s independence. In contrast, it seems that Ghost of Yōtei is set in a different era and follows a new protagonist named Atsu. Sony confirmed the release date for Ghost of Yōtei through a trailer that also provided glimpses into the storyline. Andrew Goldfarb, from Sucker Punch, wrote in a blog post, “It’s been almost five years since we released Ghost Of Tsushima, and during that time, we’ve been diligently working on making Ghost of Yōtei exceptional. Although the tales are independent, we aim to make this a worthy successor to Jin’s journey, and we can hardly wait for you to embark on Atsu’s quest for vengeance later this year.

16 years ago in the core region now known as Hokkaido, a group of ruffians called the Yōtei Six stole everything from a girl named Atsu. They murdered her family, abandoned her for dead, impaled on a flaming ginkgo tree outside her dwelling. However, Atsu didn’t die. She mastered combat, assassination, and hunting, and after many years away, she returned to her home with a list of six names: The Snake, The Oni, The Kitsune, The Spider, The Dragon, and Lord Saito. One by one, she’s tracking them down to avenge her family, wielding the same katana used to impale her on that burning tree all those years ago. But while Atsu’s story starts with vengeance, she will discover that her journey holds more than just retribution. As she ventures through Ezo, Atsu will encounter unforeseen allies and forge bonds that offer her a new sense of direction.

Ghost of Yōtei releases on October 2, 2025 on PS5 with pre-orders going live on May 2.
