As a dedicated fan of the supernatural-comedy series Ghosts, I must say that the recent developments in Season 4 have left me utterly spellbound. The way Jay was able to interact with the spirits was not just unexpected; it was downright magical.
Warning: Spoilers for Season 4 of ‘Ghosts’ lie ahead. If you haven’t watched it yet, you can catch up by subscribing to Paramount+ and streaming the series.
As a movie critic, I must confess, when I learned that Jay would encounter spirits this season, I didn’t anticipate such an unconventional turn of events. I assumed it would follow Sam’s path, but it seems I was off base by quite a stretch. An exhilarating double possession and a spectral entity devoid of boundaries paved the way for Jay to coexist on the very plane as the spirits inhabit. As Rose McIver put it, this unique experience has given Jay an understanding of these ethereal beings that even surpasses her own.
McIver referred to the episodes as significant, expressing that it was a major milestone for Jay to witness the spirits and Utkarsh Ambudkar to collaborate fully with the entire Ghosts cast. She additionally highlighted that Jay’s encounters with the ghosts contrast sharply with Sam’s, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the storyline, which she hadn’t previously considered while speaking with Collider.
As a follower, I’m thrilled that Jay can truly connect with these spectral entities – he can even touch them. This is something Sam has never experienced, and it’s fascinating. I hope this gives him an edge in future debates, when he can claim to know them more intimately than she does. It’s a unique bond, and I can’t help but find it intriguing.
Currently, it appears Jay’s capacity to perceive ghosts was short-term. Following an instance when Pete took over Jay’s body, the character Utkarsh Ambudkar portrayed was effectively ejected from his physical form, rendering him somewhat like a spirit himself. This allowed him to engage in tangible interactions with other spectral beings, which was something Sam was unable to accomplish.
It’s astonishing that I hadn’t considered this earlier. While Sam merely sees ghosts, it appears Jay may have a deeper, more personal connection with them.
He knows Sass because that ghost infiltrates his dreams, and in the Christmas episodes, Jay basically was a ghost himself. Sam hasn’t experienced either of those things, and she only knows the ghosts as just that, ghosts.
As a cinephile, I’m eagerly anticipating the evolution of Sam and Jay’s relationship dynamic given this new development. It would surely bring some humor watching them argue about the details, much like McIver envisioned.
Essentially, I adore how the series creatively allowed Jay to perceive the other inhabitants within his home. Initially, it appears transient, but it introduces an intriguing twist to the household dynamics. Previously, there were mysteries for Jay’s imagination to fill in; however, now that he can see them, it opens up a fresh perspective. Moreover, it seems that Jay may comprehend these beings better than Sam in certain aspects, given his firsthand experience of living alongside them.
I’m really looking forward to witnessing how the events unfold in the second half of Ghosts Season 4 and watching how characters like Sam and Jay develop following this thrilling predicament! Don’t forget to tune in for fresh episodes of Ghosts, airing again on January 30th, 2025, at 8:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
