Gina Carano Calls for Pedro Pascal, Kathleen Kennedy to Testify Over ‘Mandalorian’ Firing

As a longtime fan of both Gina Carano and Pedro Pascal, I find myself deeply invested in this legal battle between Carano and Disney over her firing from The Mandalorian. It’s fascinating to see such high-profile figures potentially taking the stand, including my beloved Mando himself, Pedro Pascal.

As a gamer, I’d rephrase it like this: “In my world, the legal tussle between Gina Carano and Disney over her dismissal from ‘The Mandalorian’ might involve some big-name testimonies, possibly from Pedro Pascal, Jon Favreau, and the former CEO of Disney, Bob Chapek.”

In a combined statement, the former MMA fighter and Disney listed these individuals as potential witnesses who might be required to testify in her court case. Additionally, she named Bear Grylls, Kathleen Kennedy (President of Lucasfilm), and Lynne Hale (the mastermind behind Star Wars publicity campaigns) among them.

The court document from July 26 offers a glimpse into the matters that will be debated during the trial, provisionally set for September 25, 2025. These include questions like whether Carano was still under contract on February 10, 2021, when Disney allegedly fired her for expressing conservative views on social media.

A contentious point of debate is whether Carano was singled out for treatment unlike her male colleagues. In the lawsuit she filed in February, she claimed that Disney and Lucasfilm disregarded similar offensive comments made by others toward Republicans, while she was allegedly dismissed for expressing her cultural and religious views. She cited Pascal’s 2017 post equating former President Trump to Hitler as an example of this alleged double standard.

As a gamer speaking about my friend Pascal, I’d say something like this: “In discussions we had that are mentioned in the legal case, Pascal drew an analogy between the U.S.’s handling of illegal immigration and the concentration camps in Germany during World War II. This is one of the points from our conversations that has been brought up in the lawsuit.”

It’s likely that the creator of The Mandalorian, Favreau, will be asked to give testimony about whether Disney approved a spinoff titled Rangers of the New Republic, which is rumored to have Cara Dune, played by Carano, as one of its main characters. In 2020, Kennedy announced that production for this title was underway.

It’s possible that Bear Grylls could be asked to provide testimony regarding accusations that Disney removed an episode from the show “Running Wild with Bear Grylls” which starred Carano, following her termination.

As a gamer, I was taken aback when Disney contested Carano’s chosen witnesses in our ongoing dispute. They hinted at the possibility of calling Carrie Beck, Vice President of Animation and Live Action Development at Lucasfilm, and Elisabeth Dubek, Executive Vice President of Communications for Disney, to take the stand instead.

The recent progress in the case arises following a federal judge’s decision last week not to dismiss Disney’s lawsuit. U.S. District Judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett denied Disney’s claim that the First Amendment prevented her from considering Carano’s discrimination allegations, stating that it’s possible the actress was fired due to political beliefs that were unfavorable to the company. Disney had contended that they have the right to preserve the message of their Star Wars series by distancing themselves from views deemed offensive and conflicting with their values, such as respect, integrity, and inclusivity.

Due to her dismissal from the Star Wars universe, Carano may have missed out on millions by forfeiting multi-year contracts worth around $150,000 to $250,000 per episode, with each season potentially containing up to 10 episodes.
