2023’s summer season saw a major shock for fans of the former USA network drama “Suits.” Not only did it get added to Netflix, but upon its arrival, it skyrocketed into a massive streaming sensation. The nine-season series (featuring Gabriel Macht, Gina Torres, Patrick J. Adams, Meghan Markle, Sarah Rafferty among others) surprisingly became the most streamed show of 2023. Actress Gina Torres, who starred in the show, recently disclosed a challenge that has arisen due to its recent resurgence.
What Did Suits’ Gina Torres Say About There Being A Challenge That’s Come From Its Resurgence?
Having a TV series last for nine seasons is quite an achievement, one that many in the industry might not expect to repeat. However, this was the case for “Suits,” which found a new lease of life on Netflix and resonated with viewers more powerfully than ever before. This renewed popularity has led to several spin-offs, including a podcast hosted by Adams and Rafferty, and an upcoming series, “Suits L.A.,” starring Stephen Amell.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, actress Gina Torres, known for her role as the beloved legal executive Jessica Pearson, discussed the surge in the show’s popularity and its impact on her, sharing:
As a movie enthusiast, let me confess, it’s puzzling! You know, traversing airports these days is no easy feat – that much is clear. It reminds me of a remarkable show we once watched. It resonated with our deep-seated yearning for excellence, the kind we aspire to embody in ourselves and envision for our future. Who wouldn’t want to be effortlessly witty, stylishly dressed, and strikingly attractive all the time? Well, it’s a pipe dream, but why not aim high? Why not dream big?
I find myself shouldering a burden of responsibility for an overwhelming number of new attorneys. Perhaps I can make amends by fostering more first responders. Only time will tell!
Unlike other cast members from the “Suits” series who have acknowledged being surprised by the unexpected surge in popularity, and even the Duchess of Sussex expressing it as “wild,” there hasn’t been much discussion about a quite relatable issue that arises when an old show gains countless new followers: becoming more recognizable than ever before.
In her own words, the actress (who played the role of paramedic captain Tommy Vega on 9-1-1: Lone Star) noted that the TV show Suits was probably very “inspirational” for many viewers because almost everyone in the cast seemed incredibly intelligent, streetwise, witty, funny, and well-dressed all the time. However, this level of intelligence, attractiveness, and sophistication doesn’t typically occur as effortlessly in real life as it did for characters like Harvey, Rachel, Jessica, Mike, and Donna.
