‘Girls5Eva’ Canceled After Season 3 Switch to Netflix

As a devoted fan who’s spent countless hours binge-watching Girls5Eva, I can’t help but feel a pang of sadness as the curtains fall for this hilarious and heartwarming show. Having followed their journey from the get-go, it feels like losing a dear friend who’s been there through life’s ups and downs.

Unfortunately, there won’t be a fourth season for “Girls5Eva” as Netflix has decided to end the comedy series following its debut on their platform and its third season overall.

The cancellation signals the conclusion of “Girls5Eva”, which found a second chance on Netflix following its initial run. Originally airing on Peacock for two seasons before moving to Netflix for season three, the series revolves around a girl group that reassembles more than 20 years after their sole hit. Both the first and second seasons are available on both platforms, while the finale, now exclusive to Netflix, can only be streamed there.

Produced by Meredith Scardino and overseen by Tina Fey, this show features Sara Bareilles, Renee Elise Goldsberry, Busy Philipps, Paula Pell as the main characters. In a recent episode of her podcast “Busy Philipps Is Doing Her Best”, Busy Philipps mentioned that the series has been effectively cancelled. She expressed this candidly, saying “I’m just stating it because, well, I don’t care. If Netflix isn’t going to do it, then I will. Apparently not enough people watched it or watched it in a way that mattered.

Season three of the show, Girls5Eva, premiered on Netflix on March 14th, however, it didn’t make it into Netflix’s most-watched lists globally or in the U.S., implying that a substantial number of viewers may not have discovered or been offered the show. Despite this, the series maintained its reputation as a critical darling throughout its three seasons and garnered three Emmy nominations – two for Scardino’s writing and one for exceptional original music and lyrics in the season three track “The Medium Time,” penned by Bareilles.

Universal Television is behind the hit show “Girls5Eva”. Meredith Scardino serves as the executive producer, joined by Tina Fey through her Little Stranger production company, Jeff Richmond, Robert Carlock, David Miner, and Eric Gurian.
