Glen Powell And Co. Said A Real Tornado Came Through When Twisters Was Filming. We’ve Now Seen The Aftermath, And Whoa

As a gamer who has spent countless hours navigating virtual worlds and weathering digital storms, I can say that nothing quite compares to the raw power and unpredictability of Mother Nature herself. The behind-the-scenes drama of the Twisters movie set, with its own real-life twister tearing through the farmer’s market set, is a testament to the fact that even in our most controlled environments, nature has a knack for reminding us who’s boss.

In the scorching summer lineup, there’s an exhilarating new movie titled “Twisters” featuring Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones, Anthony Ramos, and others battling against a horde of Oklahoma tornadoes. But here’s an interesting twist: while the film was about disaster, the set itself experienced one! A tornado actually struck during filming, as evidenced by the aftermath of the on-set twister. Quite a mind-blowing tale, isn’t it?

As they were preparing to create a storm for the filming of Twisters, surprisingly, a genuine storm swept through and devastated the set instead. Actor Anthony Ramos remembered that, upon receiving weather warnings, everyone sought shelter within. However, an 80-mph storm unexpectedly struck the market set, which had to be rebuilt, only to be destroyed once more for the movie.

The actual Oklahoma tornado scene wasn’t included in the movie, but Glen Powell and their team creatively captured the intense aftermath and the storm was nothing to underestimate. Check out the Instagram video below, I bet it will leave you just as awestruck as the set appears:

In the video, it’s clear that a powerful wind is tearing through the city streets, causing chaos among the street debris. The tents in the local market filled with fruits and flowers were swept away and scattered across the ground. Watching this scene reminded me of Glen Powell’s character, feeling empathy for the set crew who have to clean up after such destruction, only to start over again when the simulated storm demolishes the set once more for the movie. What a cyclical, stressful situation that must be!

Tunde Adebimpe, who starred in Twisters, stated this in a video: “It truly felt like reality was imitating cinema.” It seems as though Oklahoma’s weather was displeased that filmmakers were attempting to portray a tornado on screen, and so Mother Nature decided to demonstrate the real-life version of how it occurs. It is not surprising that the disaster movie encountered a genuine storm while filming, given that production took place during Oklahoma’s tornado season.

Initially, Glen Powell and Anthony Ramos believed they were joining a movie with heavy CGI effects. However, what they encountered was far from that – the effects turned out to be remarkably practical. The intensity of the filming left Powell, the star of Hit Man, in a state where he quipped he struggled to act without the simulated “giant jet engine” blasted at his face. While the tornadoes might have been computer-generated, the debris strewn across Oklahoma was authentic. Fortunately, during filming and when a real storm hit the set, everyone remained unharmed.

Drawing from the actual impact of a storm on the set of “Twisters,” one cannot help but be astounded by the immense power of a tornado. This serves as a reminder that extreme weather events pay no heed to film production schedules, allowing us to witness the raw might of Mother Nature in action. Catch this spectacle on the big screen when the 2024 movie release hits theaters. Also, mark your calendars for August 30, as “Twisters” will once again be available in 4DX cinemas.
