Ever since my captivating performance in Top Gun: Maverick, I’ve found myself in high demand among filmmakers. Following the success of romantic comedy Anyone But You and action thriller Twisters, I’m now set to take on even bigger roles, such as the lead in the remake of Stephen King’s The Running Man. However, my part in The Dark Knight Rises was a unique experience that left a lasting impression on me. Reflecting on this unexpected casting choice had a significant impact on my career trajectory.
Despite the limited scope of the part, I persistently auditioned for it multiple times. The opportunity to collaborate with the exceptional director Christopher Nolan was irresistible. Then, all of a sudden, Tom Hardy as Bane entered the room – it was electrifying, almost surreal. It felt like I was watching from outside my own body. That film, for me, was when life seemed to stand still; I was simply struggling for every bit of progress. Getting cast in one of Christopher Nolan’s films is a validation that’s tough to put into words. I’ve discussed this with him on various occasions, and he takes pride in discovering my talent early. I am deeply thankful that he took a chance on me.
Given Powell’s current surge of success, it seems likely that he and Nolan, the acclaimed director, will collaborate again, possibly with a larger role for Powell in one of Nolan’s upcoming films.
