Glen Powell Reveals The Origins Of His Dog's Unique Name, And Of Course There's A Tom Cruise Connection

As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the digital world, I must admit that the real-life stories of celebrities like Glen Powell are just as captivating. The bond between him and his dog Brisket is not just adorable but also intriguing, especially when it comes to the origins of the unique name.

Glen Powell is delighted to be called a “dog dad” to a mixed breed of terrier and poodle, affectionately referred to as Brisket. On set, film premieres, Instagram posts filled with shirtless photos, and everywhere in between, Powell’s adorable pup and him seem to be an unstoppable duo. We couldn’t help but wonder about the story behind such a distinctive name – and it turns out there’s a connection to Tom Cruise!

“The Summer of Glen Powell” has garnered significant spotlight for the Texas-born actor through his films like “Anyone But You,” “Hitman,” and the latest “Twisters.” During the filming of the standalone sequel, Powell also welcomed a new furry companion into his life – Brisket. To help him navigate through a recent heartbreak, Brisket has become the center of attention, and for good reason! With an adorable appearance that could grace the cover of Vogue, there’s one question on everyone’s lips: How did Brisket get his distinctive name? Here’s Powell’s explanation:

I call him Brisky, but a lot of people call him Brisky Business.

Absolutely, Glen Powell couldn’t help but reflect on his co-star Tom Cruise during the filming of “Top Gun: Maverick.” He admired Cruise’s energetic demeanor on set and was particularly moved by a piece of advice Cruise offered to help him embody the character of “Hangman.” Given Cruise’s intense portrayal in “Risky Business,” it’s no surprise that he drew inspiration from his character Joel Goodson when naming his dog. Interestingly, Brisket was initially going to be called Enid, inspired by the Oklahoma location where “Twister” was filmed. However, Powell felt that the name “Brisket” seemed more fitting for him in the end.

Since Glen Powell adopted Brisket, the dog has gained quite a following. Instagram posts showed Brisket, the on-set mascot, enjoying himself immensely with the cast of Twisters. Additionally, the little canine looked adorable in his bowtie at the premiere of the summer blockbuster movie. The actor from Scream Queens couldn’t stop talking about Brisky and his growing popularity whenever he met someone.

Brisket really is the funniest dog. I feel like he has so many parents. All my friends want to babysit him, and everybody is always sending me pictures hanging with him. They do have a lot of nicknames. I should start writing down all the nicknames that people have for him. But Brisky is what I called him from the beginning, and Brisky Business…I mean, he’s a party so it makes sense.

I can imagine Brisket being the life of the party anywhere you take him. I would have a hard time letting him go if I held him in my arms. The stars of Twisters got a real kick out of having the little pup around when he tag-teamed with them storm-chasing. With Brisket being as “cool as a cucumber,” as actor Brandon Perea described him, I still wish he had a cameo in the disaster flick. But the dog dad did tell Vogue if his terrier poodle were to star in a movie, he’d like Dune‘s Timothée Chalamet to voice him. That I’d like to see!

It’s well-known that Glen Powell affectionately named his dog “Brisky,” inspired by the movie “Risky Business” featuring Tom Cruise. I can’t help but imagine a fun collaboration between Powell and his furry companion in an Instagram reel or commercial ad, recreating the famous underwear scene from the film. By the way, if you haven’t yet, mark your calendars for the 2024 theater release of “Twisters,” with its 4DX return scheduled for August 30th.
