Glenn Martens Steps Down as Creative Director of Y/Project

As a longtime admirer of the fashion world, I must say that Glenn Martens’ departure from Y/Project leaves me with a bittersweet feeling. Over the past decade, Martens has been an integral part of the label’s meteoric rise, creating collections that were as daring as they were beautiful. His unique ability to blend historical references with witty play on proportions was truly captivating and helped Y/Project amass a devoted following.

Glenn Martens has shared the news that he’s leaving his role as Creative Director at Y/Project, a position he held for 11 years.

“The brand expressed gratitude towards Glenn for his distinctive additions to our label, and we wish him all the success for his future endeavors,” the statement read.

At the Y/Project, Martens assumed leadership in 2013 and played a significant role in fostering a devoted fanbase through his clever manipulation of proportions and modern interpretation of historical styles, also attracting a high-profile roster of celebrities. For its Fall/Winter 2024 collection, he selected renowned personalities such as Ye, Tyga, Irina Shayk, Charli XCX, Mia Khalifa, and others to showcase the designs.

At the same time, Y/Project was absent from Paris Fashion Week in February, allegedly because of financial liquidity problems.

Gilles Elalouf, one of the co-founders of Y/Project, tragically passed away in June at the age of 58. Elalouf and Yohan Serfaty launched the brand together, but unfortunately, Serfaty lost his life to cancer in 2013.

Glenn Martens expresses gratitude towards Y/Project and its late CEO, Gilles Elalouf, who sadly passed away in June, for providing him with the necessary backing and artistic liberty to bring his ideas to life, building upon the creative foundations already laid by the label.

As I step into the realm of gaming, let me share that I’ve got a side hustle too – serving as the Creative Director for Diesel, a renowned Italian fashion label I joined in 2020. We’re all set to strut our stuff on the Paris Fashion Week runway this season, marking our spot on September 25th.
