Under Jun Takahashi’s leadership, UNDERCOVER consistently excels from one season to the next, demonstrating the Japanese designer’s exceptional creative skills. Following the announcement of moving to the women’s fashion schedule for Fall/Winter 2025, UNDERCOVER marked its 35th anniversary on the runway with numerous symbols celebrating this milestone.
Instead of highlighting his most famous designs, Jun Takahashi opted for the collection he deemed his finest, which was evident in FW04: “Beautiful…Part Parasitic Part Stuffed.” This choice drew inspiration from Anne-Valerie Dupond’s vibrant, inflated, and plush artwork combined with Patti Smith’s distinctive style. For FW25, the aim is to replicate the charm and texture of stuffed toys.
A single white outfit, adorned with long sleeves and golden accessories that sparkled with movement, made its entrance under a brilliant light to signify the start of something new. This ensemble soon developed into UNDERCOVER’s upcoming Champion collaboration, showcasing close-fitting crewnecks, cuffed pants, and oversized hoodies in vibrant primary colors. Intricate butterfly designs were displayed on the lining of outerwear pieces and printed on additional loungewear inspired by nature. Classic soft coats and patchwork denim were emphasized, while frayed cotton added a touch of tranquility to tailored suiting.
The assortment maintained an air of anticipation as it delved into the past, featuring shoulder pieces reminiscent of horns and vibrant jackets adorned with confetti, all of which kept us on edge. To wrap up the show, Takahashi presented a few more stunning ensembles that left us speechless, among them were two grandiose balloon dresses that truly captivated the audience. The spectacle concluded with a dramatic scene where angels and devils clashed in dazzling gowns, culminating in two striking feather suits that evoked the image of fierce birds.
The collection was full of surprises as it explored the past through horn-like shoulder pieces and jackets brimming with confetti. Takahashi brought the show to a close with some breathtaking final looks, such as two eye-catching balloon dresses that stole the spotlight. The performance ended dramatically with angels and devils locked in a struggle, their battle unfolding in shimmering gowns before concluding with two extravagant feather suits that echoed the image of powerful birds.
