God of War Ragnarok’s install size is beefier than Kratos himself

God of War Ragnarok’s install size is beefier than Kratos himself

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt and a collection that spans across multiple generations, I must say, I am both thrilled and slightly apprehensive about the upcoming PC release of God of War Ragnarok. The prospect of immersing myself in Kratos’ epic journey on a platform other than PlayStation is undeniably exciting.

Ragnarok in 2022 is on the horizon. Sony has been gradually making some of its PlayStation-exclusive games available on PC, and the upcoming release of Ragnarok is quite significant.

Instead of playing God of War Ragnarok alongside other acclaimed games such as The Last of Us Part 1 and Ghost of Tsushima, this upcoming title promises to surpass expectations even more. However, some players may find the PC version’s system requirements challenging or unfortunately miss out on its release due to certain restrictions.

God of War Ragnarok has some massive PC requirements

In a blog post on PlayStation, the head of community management at Santa Monica Studio, Grace Orlady, announces that the install size for Ragnarok will be an impressive 190GB. This epic adventure will utilize technology from all leading graphics card manufacturers. However, it comes with some requirements: you’ll need a PlayStation Network (PSN) account and it won’t operate on the Steam Deck.

Given that the PlayStation 5 edition of Ragnarok takes up approximately 84GB after installation, it implies that the PC version of this game is almost twice as large. While there’s no argument about its potential for improved visuals, this significant increase in size could put quite a strain on your computer system. Moreover, similar to other recent AAA games such as Starfield for PC, a new Solid State Drive (SSD) is recommended to accommodate the game’s requirements.

The blog explains you’ll need a new minimum of the Nvidia GTX 1060 or AMD RX 5500 XT and Intel i5 4670K or AMD Ryzen 3 1200 in terms of GPU and CPU. If you want that elusive 60fps at medium settings, that requires an i5 8600 or Ryzen 5 3600 alongside the RTX 2060 Super or RX 5700 and 16GB of RAM.

Just as I anticipated, Ragnarok finds itself in the company of Ghost of Tsushima as an unconfirmed title for the Steam Deck, albeit Ghost’s challenges primarily revolved around online co-op. To put it simply, Ragnarok appears poised to annihilate the Steam Deck, showcasing its potential power. With the release of God of War Ragnarok on PC slated for September 19, there’s still time to ensure your gaming setup is up to the task.
