As a longtime fan of the Bachelor franchise, I have to say that I’ve seen it all – the drama, the tears, and even the occasional restraining order. But what sets Joan Vassos apart from other Bachelorettes is her understanding and empathy for contestants like Guy Gansert who come with a past.
In response to recent disclosures about contestant Guy Gansert’s history, “Golden Bachelorette” star Joan Vassos addressed the matter. It was reported that his former spouse had applied for a temporary restraining order against him back in 2021.
In the latest episode of “The Viall Files” podcast, the television personality (age 61) shared insights about her fellow cast member (age 66), explaining that the “Golden” series stands out because its contestants arrive with considerable personal histories.
Vassos commented that with all the experiences we gather in life, it’s not uncommon for people to have actions they might regret or feel less proud of at a later point.
Vassos mentioned that she’d “never encountered” that aspect of Gansert, nor did she witness it in any of the other competitors during her season.
Vassos mentioned that all his encounters with them were sincere and delightful, without any hint of a past he might have had. At the time, I was unaware of the nature of his interactions with his former spouse. He was incredibly considerate towards me, open, and seemingly vulnerable.
Vassos continued by explaining that Gansert had wept and confided in her, expressing joy for perhaps the first time in several years. Remarkably, she admitted that she would have never imagined, even a million times over, that Gansert was suspected to have a history of domestic conflicts.
Vassos expressed his continued conviction that the individual is essentially decent and compassionate. He suggested there might have been an error on his part, but admitted his ignorance of the details since he only knows as much as you do.
Back in October of 2018, my ex-wife, Heidi O’Gara, filed a temporary protective order against me in Reno, Nevada. However, she withdrew this request last November before it could be granted, asking that I only communicate with her about our kids via email.
According to People magazine, in the filing O’Gara asserted that Gansert had attempted to intimidate her physically and had sent text messages trying to mend their relationship before suddenly becoming enraged. She also alleged that on the day she filed the protective order, Gansert is said to have put something under her tire and mimicked shooting a gun with his hand after accidentally bumping into her at the gym.
On October 10th, Gansert responded to rumors concerning his past by posting a statement on Instagram, affirming that he is committed to ongoing personal growth and self-improvement.
In a challenging period for myself and my ex-partner, an unfortunate incident transpired which led to a request for a protective order. However, she graciously decided to withdraw this request, leading to a resolution that we mutually designed and found acceptable for both of us. I shared this on a social media platform.
Over the last few years, I’ve undergone a significant self-examination and I remain committed to personal growth,” he went on. “I owe a debt of gratitude to ‘The Golden Bachelorette’ and Bachelor Nation, as well as my family, who have been incredibly supportive during some of the toughest moments in my life. I am forever thankful for their unwavering support.
As a proud parent of our four fantastic kids and the newest grandparent, I felt compelled to address recent rumors. In a heartfelt statement, I confirmed that my partnership with Guy remains strong and loving.
Although our divorce was challenging, for the sake of our family’s confidentiality and progress, we arrived at an agreement together and have decided to refrain from discussing it in public,” O’Hara stated.
ABC has yet to publicly comment on Gansert’s background.
Among many Bachelor Nation participants, it has been disclosed in recent times that Gansert is one of them who faced restraining orders. Similarly, contestant Gil Ramirez from the Golden Bachelorette series had a temporary domestic violence restraining order filed against him by his ex-girlfriend in June due to stalking allegations. Furthermore, it was uncovered in September that Devin Strader, the latest season’s The Bachelorette winner, had been arrested and had a restraining order filed against him by an ex-girlfriend several years before joining the reality dating show.
