The Pro Shop is making a significant move by introducing a new studio division, expanding their horizons within the golf-oriented media and business industry towards entertainment.
The business is set to debut Pro Shop Studios, a new entertainment company focusing on both scripted and unscripted content production. Mark Olsen, one of the founders of Pro Shop, will head this studio, as it’s already secured several projects to kick-start its operations.
The projects encompass a revival of PGA Tour event ‘The Skins Game’, the upcoming third installment of the Netflix documentary series ‘Full Swing’, and a collaborative producer position for the Adam Sandler Netflix movie ‘Happy Gilmore 2’.

The projects span from resuscitating the PGA Tour event ‘The Skins Game’, moving forward with the third edition of the Netflix show ‘Full Swing’, to joining hands as co-producer for the upcoming Adam Sandler Netflix film ‘Happy Gilmore 2’.
Chad Mumm, one of Pro Shop’s co-founders, explains that from the start, their goal was to establish a studio where golf and culture intersect, aligning with our wider Pro Shop mission. They also aim to leverage our connections in Hollywood entertainment. Specifically, they see connecting golf and the PGA Tour with the broader entertainment world as the ultimate vision, and the chance to produce Happy Gilmore 2, being a perfect example of this objective.
They contacted us to assist in gathering numerous golf enthusiasts for their movie, aiming to make the golf scenes more genuine,” he continued. “Given Adam Sandler’s success in making basketball authentic in his 2022 film ‘Hustle’, they wanted to replicate some of that authenticity in ‘Happy Gilmore’. Although it’s a different tone, they aimed to make the golf feel incredibly realistic. Furthermore, they wished to include many contemporary and historical professional golfers for cameos in the movie. Consequently, they enlisted our help not only in managing the golf aspects but also in ensuring that the golfers would participate.
The idea for establishing a separate production studio emerged when it was understood that the PGA Tour, as well as golf overall, had the potential to broaden its audience by creating non-tournament related shows and content.
It’s now evident that there were additional challenges waiting – I’ve overused the metaphor – in that area. As is often the case with many of our projects, they are intentionally designed to stretch comfort zones, such as The Creator Classic or the return of Skins Game,” Olsen explains.
Previously, the PGA Tour declared its intention to transform the Creator Classic from a standalone competition into a collection of tournaments, following a successful trial run last year. This tournament invites popular golf vloggers to play on the same greens as professional players. The inaugural event was organized by Pro Shop, and they will be responsible for production this season as well.
According to Olsen, real-world chances and the potential for developing fresh franchises are among the company’s most significant possibilities.
Moreover, Mumm mentions that, given celebrities such as Steph Curry and Jason Bateman frequently expressing their affection for golf, collaborating with well-known figures presents an untapped market for the company.
We’re exploring various projects and creating some exciting ventures with incredibly skilled individuals. While many famous personalities have traditionally played golf, it now seems to be gaining cultural prominence on platforms like Instagram. This gives the impression that golf is experiencing a resurgence in popularity. I anticipate more scripted opportunities arising from this trend, and as Mark mentioned, there’s also a big plan for TV events.
Last year saw the debut of Pro Shop, backed by a $20 million investment. Powerhouse Capital and the PGA Tour are among its financial backers. The company’s founders include Chad Mumm and Olsen, veterans of Vox Media, as well as Joe Purzycki from Puck and David Miller from the PGA Tour.
On Wednesday, Pro Shop announced that they had hired KP Anderson, the previous showrunner of E!’s The Soup, as an executive producer for various projects. Additionally, Kiley Homan is now joining the team as the manager of development and studio operations. Furthermore, Vera Shouse and Rich Patten have taken on roles as VP of production finance and head of post-production respectively.
